Has anyone else felt this way lately?

I was on a thread a while ago (I think it was the one about 2014 trolls or something) that I had previously commented on and someone left a hidden jump-scare in their post. And I clicked it, however instead of having the living daylights jump out of me, I shrugged and closed the window the jump-scare had opened. :| I should also mention that I had earphones in, at max volume, it's 11 at night where I'm at, and I'm alone, the conditions could not be anymore perfect for a scare.

My question or rather questions are, has anyone felt this desensitized about anything lately? And also, do you think society as a whole is becoming more and more desensitized to certain events? Elaborate on your response please.

Society is becoming more desensitized because we read too much manga and watch too much anime so we're used to blood and gore and death and tragedy and all that human stuff. ??

No it really isn't. Remember the time when people liked to go out and see public executions? Or how about when sports involved death? It always seems worse, when it actually isn't.

U can only think about what u know they put out thoughts and how we should think and how we should feel controlling us with freedoms of choice choices they created nobody thinks for themselves feelings bring forth creatively and a feel for true freedom and that's why I love naruto men usually dominant and control women with logic but I guess that's how the world works everbodys a slave **** the human race im a alien sry got off subject

I remember playing some indie horror game a while ago, despite being in the mindset and everything, I barely felt a thing, if anything. Something tells me a lot of people out in society is entering a sort of "see it, know it, don't feel it" kind of attitude towards many things once seen as atrocious.

Yes, just consider the bombardment of information nowadays; it's enough to desensitize anyone not on their guard.
I'm actually impressed with people who are able to retain sensitivity.

I got hit by a screamer fairly late at night with earphones in, it didn't scare me too much. I just waited for the thing to come up, since I didn't know what it was, and closed it after a few seconds. The first time I got hit by a screamer though, I was completely caught off guard.

The death of a white soldier gets thousands of eulogies, and weeks of attention. The death of a black teenager gets no justice. The deaths of Palestinians are clumped into figures. The media conditions you to what is important, and leaves the rest as numbers.

If you fall susceptible to desensitization, wake yourself up and make yourself conscious of people's pain again. Without it, there's no empathy, there's no regard for other peoples' walks of life and overall there'll never be harmony.
