To this day the substitution jutsu makes 0 sense.

So you randomly find a log, turn it in to a living, breathing person and when it gets hurt it reverts back to a log?

When was the last time it was even used? I think it was the Sasuke vs Deidara fight.

It's super weird and totally OP. Set that up and it evades, amaterasu, chibaku tensei, human path... :|

It makes no sense, and seemingly has no limits.

That's when Kishi did not fully establish Narutoverse logic. Besides, it looks cool and ninja-ish.

Just ignore it. Kishi abandoned that idea and replace it with more believable Substitution (Sasuke's, for example).

It's a form of teleportation, switching places with a small and loose nearby object or critter.

No, it doesn't make sense. Neither does rasengan, chidori, ECT. The point is, its manga lol.

It's too OP. Thats why Kishi dropped it.

Those techniques were explained in Narutoverse's science.

Substitution wasn't.

Well, it actually was during the bell test. It was explained that Substitution switches places with a small, loose, nearby thing. In that instance, Kakashi traded places with Naruto's Shadow Clone in the back so none of the others would notice, and Kakashi hid in the tree to watch Naruto's confusion.

It's too OP. Thats why Kishi dropped it.

Well, uses when convenient.

Honestly, all of the basic jutsus seem to be OP and Kishimoto only uses those when convenient. Look at Body Flicker, for example.

Kishi decided that the technique was too OP. So he gave only Sasuke that jutsu. And even then,
it gets a time limit. Although the rinne technique is far more versatile and better than substitution
but still, one has to admit it's pretty much just a more advanced substitution jutsu + time limit.

Not to mention it happens in milliseconds so the time you and your log swap places can't be seen by even S-Rank Ninja.

Then again, 91 year old Kakuzu who survived Hashirama was unable to track Naruto who made two clones beside him and somehow teleported positions with one to where the latter would miss the attack on the real Naruto.

Shit the clone swapping that tricked Kaguya, the one that took place in an open field against an opponent who can tell the difference between mere substitutions because if the Byakugan tracking chakra that's been noted to be distinct for each character, still worked.

Single most OP plot saving device in the series.

Actually, bold isn't necessarily true. Gai and Sharingan-less Kakashi noticed Gaara's sand substitution against Lee.
