I made a thread like this before but it lacked evidence and scans. Most people agreed with the Cavendish part but diagreed with the Zoro part. This theory mostly focuses on Zoro so you don't have to read the info on Cavendish but its I recommend you read it.

Important Info: Cursed swords are classified as 'Yotos.' They are special swords known to carry a curse AND bring misfortune. This will be important when I get to Zoro.

Cavendish "The Pirate Prince"

Cavendish has the legendary sword Durandal.

We know Mr. Cabbage has an alter ego named Hakuba

However, Cavendish is unaware of this alter ego and Bastille spoke of the LEGEND of Hakuba.

This implies that Hakuba is quite old and Cavendish certainly doesn't seem old. Late 20s at best. The only thing that can possibly be old about Cavendish is his legendary blade Durandal. Also, Cavendish most likely didn't have this "alter edo" known as Hakuba for long as he knows nothing about it. Also, notice that in the scan above, that a marine is seemingly possessed and is carrying a unigue-looking sword.

This implies two things:
1. Durandal is a yoto class cursed sword
2. Hakuba is the curse of the legendary sword Durandal

Yes. Hakuba is the curse of Durandal. The weilder of this blade loses consciousness and is taken over by this blood-thirsty entity. Some could specualte that Hakuba copies the strength of its previous owner since Cavendish got stronger when possessed by Hakuba(this part is important when I get to Zoro). I believe Cavendish will travel with the SHs for awhile until they atleast reach Wano. Cavendish will learn about the curse and will try to control it. Cavendish and Hakuba may become one being and we'll have one strong attention *****.

"Pirate Hunter" Zoro
Like Cavendish, we all know Zoro has a cursed blade. The name of that cursed blade is Sandai Kitetsu. When Zoro got the blade in Loguetown, he was told that the sword is cursed and brings terrible misfortune.

Zoro overcame the misfortune aspect of the blade

He overcame misfortune but what about the curse? Its already in effect. Roronoa Zoro has been under the curse of Sandai Kitetsu for 2 years now. The name of that curse is.....
ASURA

Asuras in Mythology and Religion
Hinduism
The asuras are a group of power-seeking deities related to the more benevolent devas. They are sometimes considered nature spirits. They battle constantly with the devas.

Mythology was created to show that though the asuras were originally just, good, virtuous, their nature had gradually changed. The asuras (anti-gods) were depicted to have become proud, vain, to have stopped performing sacrifices, to violate sacred laws, not visit holy places, not cleanse themselves from sin, to be envious of devas, torturous of living beings, creating confusion in everything and to challenge the devas.

Asuric qualities are pride, arrogance, conceit, anger, harshness, and ignorance.

Buddhism
While all the gods of the Kāmadhātu are subject to the passions to some degree, the Asuras above all of them have become addicted to them, especially wrath, pride, envy, insincerity, falseness, boasting, and bellicosity.

Because of their passions, rebirth as an Asura is considered to be one of the four unhappy births (together with rebirth as an animal, a preta, or a being in Naraka). The state of an Asura reflects the mental state of a human being obsessed with ego, force and violence, always looking for an excuse to get into a fight, angry with everyone and unable to maintain calm or solve problems peacefully.

Beings may go to the Asura realm because in human form they had good intentions, but committed bad actions such as harming others.

Some asuric deities commonly used curved swords and control flames.

Sounds eerily similar to Zoro right? Zoro stands above normal humans but is currently below a god(Mihawk). A pretty normal human who caused harm to lots of people and was pretty "reborn" as an Asura.

Zoro has always been violent, rude, arrogant, ignorant and filled with pride, but Luffy is too. Sanji is also violent, arrogant, rude and filled with pride. Zoro's asuric qualities are jus more noticable because of his laid back, calm and cool personality. Ever since Zoro got the cursed blade, his asuric qualities gradually got more and more extreme and noticable.

Lets take a look at Zoro's "development" throughout the series.

Zoro has gotten darker and colder as the series progressed.

From a normal, chill and cool guy who likes to crack jokes, toy with his opponents, and placed in over-the-top humorous situations, to a cold, heartless, unapprochable killer who hates fighting small fry, degrades opponents and only wants to get his fill by fighting strong opponents. The humerous moments Zoro has nowadays are suttle and obvious(arguing with Sanji, poor sense of direction). Zoro's arrogance, violent nature and ignorance has gotten worse(or stronger) due to the influence of Asura.

However, that influence may be halted. Look at this:

Zoro is interested in Wano's fire cutting technigue. The SH crew will go to Wano after their business in Dressrosa and Zou is done. While at Wano, Zoro will learn about(or learn more) Asura and the fire cutting technigues. Asura's influence will allow Zoro to use black flames. Pretty appropriate for his new demonic nature.

P.S. I said "learn more" just incase Mihawk didn't already tell Zoro about it. Cutting Zoro's eye may have a counter measure to Asura's influence.

What do you all think? What do you think this "Asura" really is?

Like I said in the other thread, completely agree with both the Cavendish and Zoro theories.

Only thing is i'm not sure if it is a Marine with Durandal in that panel, the guys silhouette looks to me to have a musketeer design which I would like to see from the previous wielder of the sword.

After reading this I've been thinking how beneficial Zoro's flame cutting technique would be. How will it be implemented in the later arcs ? Is there a significant "someone" who has fire powers that will be at a disadvantage against Zoro ?

What I am saying is how would all this benefit Zoro and in what way.

Any ideas ? Good theory btw You've made me agree more on the whole sword curse thing v_v

Awesome theory mate, what you said about Zoro was really interesting, and now it gave the urge to go watch the scene where he shows Asura.

Yeh I really like the theory man. Also you put all of Zoros badass moments in one place, I've been chuckling for about 10 minutes.

It'll most likely come into play in the Kaido arc. Kaido can't be the only one worth mentioning in his crew.

I used to think Zoro was very bland and had no development. The asura stuff made him interesting again.

What makes you say that?
I believe that Zoro's Sandai Kitetsu will get broken and that he will replace it with Nidai Kitetsu, which he picks up at Wano. I don't think he would lose Asura permanently so I think that Nidai Kitetsu would also carry the curse, along with Shodai Kitetsu. Besides all 3 of them are cursed so it wouldn't be too far fetched to believe their curses are similar or identical.
