All alone he managed to go to Nagato's home turf and almost take him out! Without any intel or info what so ever. Nagato said that with intel Jiraiya would have managed to defeat him. Mangafacts.

Pain infiltrated Konoha and took out everyone, including Naruto. (who was saved by asspull Minato showing up).
That's how powrfull he was, and Lord Jiraiya almost took him out on his own. And with his dying breath gave Naruto intel that saved Konoha.

Pain said that Jiraiya may not have lost if he had known the secret. The only reason this is true is because if Jiraiya had known there were three more Pains aside the three he had defeated, he would not have been caught off guard. Thus giving him a chance of winning. If they all came at once though Jiraiya loses very quickly. Just like he loses to Nagato quickly.

My point exactly, Nagato would have died, thus pain would have died. Naruto knew Nagato was the 7th pain, Jiraiya didnt. He took the hard route and almost took out pain.

Armless Orochimaru was more powerful than Hebi Sasuke and toyed with KN4, but had a hard time against Drugged Jiraiya.

Base Jiraiya took out KN4 without killing intent.

Sage Jiraiya had the capacity beat the Rinnegan.

Kisame even outright stated that he's not close to Jiraiya's league, and Itachi admitted they were equals.

Obito said that Jiraiya lived up to his reputation by being able to give the invincible Pein a hard time, and even Black Zetsu was not surprised that Pein's fight with Jiraiya lasted so long "He was fighting Jiraiya, afterall."
