In this thread, I will be using nothing but scans from Shippuden since Shippuden is the breaking point for the manga and the climax of our characters growth.

In the beginning of part 2, we see the overall progress and growth levels of both Naruto and Sasuke. For the most part, Naruto, since we see Sasuke later on in the story. Many people were quite disappointed with Naruto's overall results, and quite frank, so was I. He came back from the timeskip, mediocre at best, with nothing but a better and Now, one would ask the question, why did he only learn this? Was is just to preserve and show his performance later on into the manga for shock value? Was Jiraiya just too lazy and only focused on girls instead of getting Naruto ready for the Akatsuki? Didn't Naruto say that he wanted to bring Sasuke back? In fact, why does most of his character revolve around bringing Sasuke back? Instead of focusing on Sasuke, you should be focusing on your jutsu and ninja skills, but instead he starts crying when he realizes that he has failed and that everything cannot go his way.

Naruto's mindset has been the same from the start of Shippuden till his meeting with Pain involving Jiraiya's death. That's a very large interval of time, while Sasuke has been constantly figuring out things about his life and receiving development, Naruto has been receiving negative development through Sasuke's supremacy.

When Naruto first encountered Sasuke at Orochimaru's hideout, Naruto was so fixated on bringing Sasuke back, but compared to Sasuke's growth, Naruto's growth was pitiful. His encounter with Orochimaru at Tenchi bridge decreased his development even further when he Naruto's constant obsession over Sasuke

Sasuke's growth has been tremendous, and he shows us his new growth;

Putting Naruto, Sai, and even Yamato in utter shock, he shows the real meaning of fruitful training.

Naruto's further training for Rasen Shuriken was just to catch up to Sasuke, which again proves that Naruto needs Sasuke's superior signs and superior growth to notice that he needs to get stronger, but Sasuke's growth was already established during the timeskip when he actually cared about getting stronger while Naruto became a disappointment.

Sasuke being able to which in return puts Naruto's meager Rasen Shuriken to shame Sasuke's battle with Itachi shows his for settling the score with his brother. Technically, Sasuke didn't win, but he was still able to achieve one of his goals, despite not knowing the true secret of his brother.

After figuring out the he then decides on a and this is a new turning point in the manga, which adds even more characterization on the character Sasuke, but not only Sasuke, but is adds new heights to the story. of him crying on the ledge was a sign to us all that he has matured away from his brothers footsteps. Whether his actions be good or bad, his quick change in goals adds more room for exploration when it involves Sasuke, as opposed to Naruto who always does what you expect and it never makes the story interesting.

While Sasuke was busy fighting his brother and trying to achieve one of his goals, On would ask the question, why he keeps torturing himself by trying to bring Sasuke to his side of thinking? Well, this is not doing anything for him and it is not making his stance in the story any more credible either. He even puts Sasuke on a higher plateau then his friends, which I find very stupid.

Naruto's development then begins to grow when he finally wants to become stronger for someone else sake, and not just for Sasuke. His vengeance for his master Jiraiya forms the peak of his maturity and his strength and he even a but his development begins to backtrack yet again, when he and

Sasuke defeated Danzo, a member who manipulated his brother and was responsible for his clans destruction. Sasuke's characterization and goal sets have increased while Naruto has declined with his constant obsession over Sasuke.

Naruto then decides to tame the Kyubi and he gets the admiration from his parents. and it begins to increase even more when he starts to be This increases Naruto's care and compassion for the creatures that are usually mistreated and just used for power.

Sasuke's character begins to change when he Some might call this negative development, but I would merely call this a as meeting with his brother for the last time, he His talk with Hashirama makes things more clear. His final resolve is to and to prove what a This notion highlights Sasuke's motives adds even more creativity and development to his characterization. Sasuke is willing to risk his life to save the ninja world and let go of petty grudges.

While Naruto is busy crying and being depressed for casualties during a war,

Sasuke is focusing on the Kaguya.

From this point on, Naruto's development decreases while Sasuke's development further increases and it shows who is better fitted for situations like above. Even during desperate situations, Sasuke is not giving up.

Sasuke's character from then on is well developed to the point that Kishi knows what he is doing with this character Sasuke Uchiha.

Itachi had a major impact on Sasuke's life and it turned him into a mature individual. Whether Sasuke's actions are harsh or disrespectful to some; you can't escape the fact that his characterization and development are well placed compared to most characters, including Naruto

Sasuke's characterization has been mediocre at best since Five Kage Summit. Half this thread is nothing more than bias interpretation and bullshit, but I respect your opinion nonetheless. I find Naruto's superior.

Who has better development and characterization is opinion based rather then fact based, but everyone is entitled to their opinion.

I find Sasuke's development okay, but his swinging from one side to the other does push the bounds of realism.

Generally people stick to one side and when presented with proof that they are wrong will deny it (in Sasuke's case, normally someone would refuse to believe that Itachi wasn't a traitor and was actually trying to protect him, to the point that they would lie to themselves because they can't handle the guilt of having hated someone who loved them for years).

What leadership?

He spent most of the fight in the desert and was saved by the people that his leadership decision was to abandon.
