In order to 'upgrade' your sharingan, you must feel deep negative emotions aka hatred in naruto world.
Maybe Hamura was the one who taught Ninshuu, and Hagoromo is the true villain.
s06p could possibly be the beginning of the cycle of hatred.

The point is, he has a rinnegan, which is gained through hate.​

Obito said it was overwhelming because it takes a tremendous amount of chakra to handle them, hence he could only use one. Nagato could use them fine, and eventually "became" a good person in spite of having them.

I don't think he is cursed. If anything, his rinnegan seems to be a purified version of his mother's. Tomoes are associated with curses in this manga, like Orochimaru's curse seals.

I see where people are going with this but I disagree. Hes the main reason Naruto and Sasuke were able to save the world. Look at the chapter with the old man and shukaku...the Sage isnt evil...I think he may have been born with the Rinnegan(or just awakened it naturally) He was born from Kaguya...Its entirely possible. We've never even seen him without it. His sons chakra combined creates his thats how the Rinnegan is awakend.

Actually it is not the final stage of sharingan. When you combine Ashura and Indra's chakra, you get Hagoromo's chakra (and the Rinnegan).
If the host of Ashura (a non-Sharingan user) would combine Indra's host's chakra with his own, he would get Rinnegan too.
