Yeah it's a total waste. I won't disagree that it's sad it really is, but it completely ruined his Character. He was supposed to Change the Hyuuga and could have been there for Naruto when he became Hokage along with Shikamaru in the future as they were his closest allies in the K11 (Excluding Sasuke) similar to Darui and Cee are to Ay.

Neji Thrashed Hinata low no zero difficulty she wasn't even able to hit him.
At the end he got killed so hinata would get more relevence and she barely performs a tech that he was proficiently using 3 years ago without being pat of main branch.

she is a chuunin, compare her skills to other chuunin. thats like me saying muu is weak because im comparing him to madara. when you compare it blinds you. just because one ninja is inferior does not make them weak. muu is a strong ninja but he is not on madara's level so just because we compare them does it make them weak? no. you have to realize you are comparing her to an elite ninja and results will be bias. if you look at her skills alone, you can tell she is not weak. and definitely not weaker than the rest of the clan

Hinata either gets completely outclassed by the other Chuunin (Lee, Sakura, Chouji, Shikamaru and Shino) and completely outclasses the rest (Ino, Ten Ten, Kiba) She's pretty much in between the strongest and the weakest. Quite honestly Kishi should have added more characters in their graduating class it would have made bigger variety for matchups, but it's far too late for that now.

Not so good feat for most relevent Hyuga.
Also she is completely overshadowed by Rooki Nine/Konaha 11's feats and performance in their departments
