I'd say that mofo just got old and passed, but we saw that Tobirama was still young when he died, so I' ve got no clue, really. Also, Kakuzu only said he was supposed to kill him, but he failed.

That's a good question. It seemed to me that everyone who died and got resurrected with Edo Ten looks how they looked when they died. Hiruzen was old when he died and old when he was brought back like dude said and Hashirama looked like he had a lot of life left in him to die of old age, but maybe it was some kinda disease like what Itachi had but maybe not exactly.

Tobirama was still young when he became hokage 30-40, and he died pretty young 35-45

Hashirama was only a few years older than Tobirama (hate that I can't nickname him Tobi), and he became hokage in his early thirties probably.

I'd say that Hashirama died from some chakra disease or something that he got from the battle with Madara and drained his life after a while

Or he died in the first ninja war surround by a bazzilion enemies, eventually his chakra ran out
