I agree. Their "friendship" should of been showed and developed more before they faced off at the VotE. They both admitted they were best friends back then and I'm like "what?" - Kishi, why tell and not show? It just came off as weird in the middle of Shippuden at how Obsessed Naruto was with "saving" Sasuke down a path he chose.

Even back in Part 1... sure they were friends but Sasuke never cared about Naruto that much and Naruto was always about trying to best Sasuke - it was too much rivalry and not enough actual friendship development. I.I got the impression that they hardly hung out outside of Missions and events.

Honestly, the "save" Sasuke plot could of been really something special if the relationship was something akin to Gon and Killua from Hunter Hunter. I could totally see Gon going to the lengths that Naruto did to try and save his friend, and vice verse - Killua would do the same.

Naruto said Sasuke was like a brother to him,and said he was his friend.Sasuke said Naruto was his closest friend.That's believable.Naruto and Sasuke went through alot with each other.They fought side by side in multiple life and death battles plus they trained together the whole time they were doing the Tree Climbing excercise.Sasuke even help carry Naruto back.

Sasuke didn't become close to anyone since the Uchiha massacre besides Naruto,Sakura,and Kakashi,so Naruto being his closest friend matches.
