As far as explosions go, Deidara said that Sasori was more powerful than him, and Deidara might not even have seen his full power. Deidara's explosions are, without a doubt, better than any explosive Kankuro has on him, and there's absolutely no way a single explosion would completely destroy all of Sasori's puppets, especially since he can just guard with the Iron Sand. Kankuro actually has no way to even get through the Kazekage, much less Sasori's 100 Puppets jutsu and his puppet body.

Whenever Kankuro is as much of a genius, is so devoted to puppetry that he turns himself into a puppet, is so skilled that he can kill Suna's historically strongest Kage, has an arsenal of 298 quality puppets, and can control 100 of those puppets at the same time, then he'll be superior.
