I don't thinks so, i think he had som sort of tech that allowed him to focus chakra on various parts of his body and keep them alive as a seperate entity. When his chakra runs out, his head (in the grave) will die eventually.
Kakuzu stated several times that no one is immortal, and he knew Hidan the best. So i think Kakuzu knew Hidan's secret.
