The Uchiha and senju were the strongest clas during the war times, and later on.. they are stated as the most feared clan in shinobi history and hashirama stated "if Uchiha and Senju the 2 strongest clans join in arms, no one can stand against us" at the time the hyuuga were saying that, the senju were gone (in ways we do not understand) and the Uchiha all but extinct (Itachi betrayed them) so as a clan yes they were the strongest seeing as how they were number 3, but when Uchiha and Senju were around, no, they were not the strongest.
And the theory is flawed. The sage had TWO sons, Uchiha and Senju. and he inherited his doujutsu from THE FRUIT not Kaguya's original DNA but for some reason it split into Sharingan (as a host who could not use it) and Rinnegan (as the only one to use it as his sons couldn't originally). The one who inherited the Byakugan was Hamura, the Hyuuga ancestor, So the bit about the Hyuga being the oldest clan is true, but the part of the Sharingan being a byakugan ofshoot is false, but them being Hyuuga offshoot is technically wrong, because they share the OOtsutsuki comon ancestry, but other than that they are just cousin clans with Hyuuga steming from Hamura Ootsutsuki and Uchiha steming from Indra Ootsutsuki, son of Hagoromo the brother of Hamura. The connection with the Uzumaki is even more incorrect seeing as how it offshoots from Senju as per current speculation, but I would fully accept it if they were the Hamura version of the Senju, i.e, Hagoromo's kids made Uchiha and senju, while Hamura's made Hyuuga and Uzumaki
I disagree. The Byakugan is a celestial Dojutsu. Hiashi refers the Hyuga power being the Celestial in chapter 101. Here In Viz Translation Hiashi Quotes
"He is truly is... A Fearsome Natural Talent... So The Divine Shinobi Blood of the Hyuga Clan Resides in a child of the cadet Branch who can never become Heir...?"

Though, to be fair,
"divine" tends to refer to Gods or Godesses .... You know, like what Kaguya is.
Then again ... kanjis in Japanese can be read in many ways..... Take Hinata and hyuga. ..... They both can be written using the exact same kanjis

"kami" can mean many things, from holy, to god, to divine.... So it could be that there are multiple meanings.
I know the viZ scans should be most reliable... But it would seem like the translators thought Divine would suit better than celestial at the time.... I mean, that happened all the way back 500+ chapters ago..... If i was translating that, and came across it.....It would have seemed weird to me for Hiashi to call his clan celestial beings... So it could be a misinterpretation.

I''v always suspected that the the Hyuga never once observed using ninjutsu. Ever. Not once. which ties in with the Moon People and Byakugan is the celestial dojutsu concludes that the Byakugan was among the first dojutsu.
If you look at the Juubi carefully, it shows both the Rinnegan and Sharingan in its eye, yet there is no Byakugan mixed in there, implying it is unrelated. If kishi wanted, he could have made juubi's eyelike obito's war mask so to represent all three eyes; tomoes with ripples and a white colour, yet he makes the juubi's eye red instead.
Then there's the fact that sharingan (in MS/EMS state) and rinnegan have demonic powers unlike Byakugan. There's also the fact that Byakugan is something hyugas are naturally born with, while sharingan has to have special chakra sprout in order to awaken while rennigan needs ashura+indra to awaken.
Also, while Rennigan and sharingan can't be deactivated by foreign users, Byakugan can be. It doesn't really mean much, but it once again shows a difference between the byakugan and the other two eyes.
So knowing that Byakugan is almost certainly NOT apart of the juubi, is it really satisfactory to say Kaguya had it and leave it at that? I don't think so, hence why I believe it is an eye that is naturally found in kaguya's species.
I think rennigan, sharingan, and ALL elemental kekkai genkais came from the juubi. I think the only two kekkai genkai that come from Kaguya and/or her species are the Byakugan and kimimaru's bone manipulation
I think it is kind of ridiculous the number of people that keep on saying that "the Hyuuga were descendants of the sage, not the uchiha." We have seen already that the Sage's brother, Hamura, has a byakugan, and that he had roughly the same level of strength as Hagoromo. In addition, we have seen him say that Indra and Ashura were his sons. On top of that, Black Zetsu knew that Indra and Ashura chakra needed to mix to create a rinnegan. If Indra and Ashura, who are the heads of Uchiha and Senju, needed to mix chakra to create rinnegan, why do people assume that the sages children were anything but Uchiha and Senju?
The Byakugan, and the Hyuuga line more specifically obviously came down through Hamura, whom also likely fathered the Kaguya family, since we can say almost certainly that Hagoromo did not father the Kaguya family. Now, this leaves the question where the Uzumaki come from. What I supect is that Hagoromo may have had a third child that was a part of the Uzumaki. Why do I suspect this? The red hair that both the sage and the uzumaki share. What is another possibility? A man with sealing skills married a Senju woman and eventually this side family grew large enough to be called a clan.
Yes, this thread is outdated, and now we get to learn that Hamura equipped the Byakugan, and this is clearly obvious that Hamura is the founder of not just the Hyuga but also the Uzumaki who was said to specialize the sealing technique assuming he was a death reaper seal.
There's no doubt that Hagoromo children is indeed the ancestor of Senju& Uchiha
