Accoring to jirayia own words he claim he would be able to kill itachi and kisame which I find very surprising.
Or was it all simply bluff or was it combined with the fact that itachi exhausted his eyes that day?

Itachi did not want to kill Jiraiya. It would have been easy for him to do it though. EASY

Hell he doesn't even need Tsukyomi. His regular genjutsu would have been more than enough.
