If you want to underestimate him the cool but look at the students he raised. Naruto Minato Nagato Konan Yahiko. Not a bad list at all. Through him indirectly you got Kakashi and Obito(minato's students) and Kakashi you got team 7. Dudes a beast

I think J-man's death was probably the most well done in the manga. It's impact made Naruto far stronger than he already is right now. That whole Pein arc was dedicated to him. I don't see where they even need a closure?

During Pain fight, Tsunade saw both J-man and 4th Hokage behind Naruto.
Kakashi saw his sensei 4th Hokage Minato image behind Naruto while sitting on Kurama.
Let see if both J-man & Minato may show themselves when Naruto is appointed as The Hokage.

His students =/= him

I'm not underestimating him. His SM is imperfect and takes too long to enter while at the same time doesn't last very long. He absolutely needs those summons to be a threat to the Alliance.
