Madara question

Did madara let hishirama win? When he fought the kages he claims he saw through hashi's wood clones. Also during the fight with hashi he bit off a piece of hishi's arm to gain power by mixing senju and uchiha DNA. Lastly he had izanagi implanted into his eye. So my theory is he fought Hashirama for the purpose to gain power and to fake his death, in order to start his plan. He faked his death my letting Hashirama believe the wood clone fooled him.
