By French Empire you mean that of Napoleon, or the kingdom earlier .-.

Roman had more strategic minds at the top if I believe so myself.

Also, the Romans controlled more of the world than the French did.

Oh alright. Well they are quite hard to compare...there are several aspects, and now Romans had centuries ,Napoleon only had about a decade (it would be more fair to compare certain emperors with Napoleon). As for which one was more badass; I think it's quite cool how Napoleon's genius fodderized Europe. But the same could be said about some Roman warlords as well. It's interesting how a charismatic leader can impact history (Scipio,Marius, Sulla, Caesar, Augustus etc) . Napoleon also contributed to reforming the law (Code Civil =Code Napoleon) that affected other countries, but Romans formed a legal system that affected the whole world for millenia, even today most countries' law have institutions adopted from Roman law (in many cases it was conveyed through colonization). In the end I think Romans' achievements are obviously greater.

Romans seemed more powerful than they were because they where more advanced than 90% of the rest of Europe so it was easy to conquer.

French...Napoleon kinda got his butt kicked...and he was scared of kittens...Waterloo, how would you feel if you won the war la la la la LOL!

Now a really powerful force in Europe was the Spanish. But I will go Roman as the Spanish are not there.

The Romans were advanced way beyond their time period. The fall of Rome set the world back a millennium in terms of technology.

That was a good thing, technology is too advanced now for the level of society we have, if the tech technology we have now had existed even a hundred years ago, then this forum and everyone on it, wouldn't be here, no one would.

Technology has already moved beyond society, that is never good.

Roman Empire no doubt, their legacy extends to every facet of modern society from law, economics, military science, architecture, etc.

Roman Empire was perhaps the most successful empire in human history. Ancient Rome lasted for over 2 000 years, whereas French Empire was possibly the greatest of it's time, but was not even half as great as Roman empire.

At first they were ruled by divine kings, then
they became a republic (perhaps their greatest
period) before finally becoming an empire. How
a group of farmers, who started off fending
wolves to protect their livestock, eventually
became the greatest empire in all history is the
stuff of legends. Coupled with an excellent
military and administrative system, the Roman
Empire, or rather ancient Rome, is also one of
the longest-lasting.

Ancient Rome contributed greatly to the
development of law, war, art, literature,
architecture, technology, religion and language
in the Western world. In fact many historians
consider the Roman Empire to be a perfect
empire – influential, fair, long-lasting, big, well
defended and economically advanced. The
influence of the Roman Empire is felt to this
day, if for no other reason than the influence on
the Catholic Church, which took much of its
administrative nous and pageantry from it.

Only a fool would compare.

There's no telling what would've happened if Rome didn't fall.
