Calling Itachi's Amaterasu garbage is really an inaccurate description, considering it didn't just dwarf Sasuke's Katon, it completely swallowed it up.

So much Itachi fap o this thread. Rinnegan consumes vast amounts of chakra as evidenced by Obito only being able to use 1. It also drained Nagato heavily. Itachi probably couldn't use it any better than sasuke because of his chakra reserves. He would probably barely even be able to do what obito did with it, also sasuke has surpassed itachi by now so no.

Seeing as how there are many virgin boys here who know very little on the matter, let me summarize..

During Sasuke vs. Itachi battle we must note 2 sides.
Side 1 - Sasuke.
Sasuke had to train at the Leaf, had to train under Kakashi, abandoned the leaf to train 3 years under Orochimaru so that he could even stand a chance against Itachi. When they fought he didn't have Susano'o, nor Amaterasu because, and please HOLD YER BALL - Sasuke's Sharingan <<< Itachi's Sharingan. In fact, Sasuke was no where near the level Itachi was at the moment of his death. On top of all that he had to, on numerous occasions, draw out the Cursed Seal Power to survive or use chakra. He hit Itachi with his strongest Jutsu's and still failed to land a killing blow. Sasuke's Katon << Itachi's Amaterasu. Sasuke's Genjustu skill << Itachi's. Sasuke could not even activate the mangekyo sharingan on his own - Itachi GAVE him HIS power. On top of that he overused his MS and ended up going blind. He had to go and again take his brother's power (eyes) and achieve EMS. Only at this point did he surpass Itachi. And all it took was for Itachi to sacrifice himself and give all his power to Sasuke.

Side 2: Itachi.
Itachi was a genius at a very young age. Served briefly under Kakashi in the Anbu, acted as a double-agent and pretty much developed his skills all by himself. Massacred half the Uchiha Clan by himself (other half was Obito's doing), infiltrated Akatsuki and basically fodderized Deidara. Came back to the leaf, Soloed Kakashi (sparing his life), would have soloed Asuma and Kurenai too, escaped Jiraya's "inescapable mountain-toad stomach-trapping jutsu", saving Kisame in the meantime. Somewhere between Part 1 and 2 he got fatally ill but still prolonged his life with medication, all the while struggling to stay on top shape. Fact: Itachi was at Death's Gate when he fought Sasuke. He was almost blind and coughing up blood 24/7. Still gave Sasuke a run for his money. Beat him at genjutsu, tied at taijutsu, overpowered him with Ninjutsu, summoned an armored Susano'o, saved Sasuke from the Curse Mark and sealed Oro like np. Still made it to sasuke so he can give him his power.

I get that Kishi favors Sasuke as one of the main characters but Itachi (in his life) was always 10 classes above Sasuke.

As to the main topic - Itachi doesn't need Rinnegan to solo anyone. Remember that he saved Naruto and Bee from Nagato on several occasions using his 'regular MS'...

Major facepalm* sasuke specializes at Amaterasu since he has the kagutsuchi, and itachi specializes at genjutsu since he had tsukuyomi. It's pointless to try and argue who's better. Especially the people trying to say that itachi had low chakra reserves: it was never stated that he had low reserves. I would assume that considering how long it took itachi to go practically blind, that he would do pretty well with the rinnegan. They are both pretty powerful shinobi, but I would have to say that itachi was a little more wise with how he handled the mangekyo sharingan at first. And yes, wiser use of dojutsu is better. You may have a more powerful dojutsu, but if you spam it to the point where you can't use it than that's not exactly all that great. I'm on neither side of the argument. I like both sasuke and itatchi
