RAM (memory) question?

i have an old build with two ddr2 512mb ram connected, if i were to remove one, and install a 2gb ram in one slot would it cause any problem? Since I've never personally seen a running computer having 1536 mb of memory, for example, you have 1gb of ram, and you connect an additional 512mb ram, the digits seem outta place and it worries me if it will cause any problem. Just want someone to shed some light on this, as i tend to think about even the littlest of things :/

it has 3gb ram in total, 4 slots, with two 1gb rams each, and two 512mb ram sticks LOL.

It likely wouldn't work.... Processors and OS have ram limits.

Look up your computer ram limits and see if you can.

the 500 something MB ram space is probably referring to the ram that's built into the video cards nowadays. so that it won't take from computing speed from the actual ram cards.

that isn't a problem i guess, since the lenovo 9174 intel chipset q35 models can support 2gb modules per slot, the OS is 32 bit but i can just install 64 bit if it's an issue.

If it has the ability to run the ram, then find the right ram and it should work.

Alright thanks, I'll give it a shot and see what happens, but the main point i'm making, what bothers me is, for example, you have 3gb ram, add 512mb and it's 3584, which seems pretty out place and it REALLY bothers me for some reason, wether it will cause system defficiency, errors or not.

I might be a little too anxious, but i'm curious.
