Yeah, he got Itachi in genjutsu, but what happened almost immediately afterwards? Itachi switched it around. It doesn't mean anything if two ninjas genjutsu skills are equal, it's if someone can outwit their opponent, Itachi outwitted Kurenai.

If it weren't for Itachi's Sharingan, she would of caught him in the Genjutsu and soloed him.
