We all know that immortality was one of Orochimaru's goals. Well, I thought about something.
If Orochimaru had just helped revive the juubi and then double crossed Obito at the last second by becoming the juubi jinchuuriki himself, then Orochimaru would have obtained massive power and a much better form of immortality than he has. Think about it:
As the juubi jinchuuriki, Madara has survived night elephant, night Guy (which obliterated his whole right side), lava style rasenshuriken ( which cut down the God tree) and being cut in half! Madara even said himself, "I am immortal".
Furthermore, Orochimaru claims to want to get all the techniques in the world. As the juubi jinchuuriki, chakara would be no issue whatsoever and he would pretty much gain access to all the elements and senjutsu (as shown by Madara showcasing storm release). Therefore, he would be able to get jutsu after jutsu after jutsu! He wouldn't even have to even worry about having the right body to control snake sage mode because he wouldn't need that mode. The juubi automatically gives you senjutsu of the six paths!
He wouldn't even need Sasuke's body anymore, but if he still insisted on getting it, then he could have done so with ease!
As the juubi jinchuuriki, Orochimaru would have all of these benefits. They would be way much better than what he has now. I mean just look at his current arsenal:
His immortality is horrible because his bodies expire every few years and he has to keep switching bodies, which may mean that he loses certain powers when he switches.
Whenever a body is about to expire, he goes into a sickly state and needs medical attention from people like Kabuto. If no body is around him when his body is about to expire then he is screwed over!
Not all of his bodies can handle the senjutsu that he desires.
Changing bodies doesn't grant you limitless chakara.
As for his jutsu arsenal:
He has edo tensei
That one little wind style jutsu
Sealing jutsus
Mud clones
Snakes with swords
Poison
That is about it. He didn't even really fight alongside Hashirama and Tobirama against Hiruzen in part 1. If he really has all of these great jutsus that he claims to have, then he should have been able to use them along with the edo tensei against Hiruzen and he shouldn't have been crippled for 3 years. Clearly his arsenal is all hype as things stand.
If he was the juubi jin, he would have had all of the immortality and power that he wanted. He could easily crush Konoha, defeat Sasuke, defeat Itachi and get the totsuka sword, etc...
Heck, even while he was waiting to capture the bijuus, if he was still in Akautski he could have taken up Sasori's offer for becoming a puppet, looked into Hidan's method of immortality or even taken to Kakazu's method.
In short, it would have been much more beneficial for Orochimaru if he stayed with Akautski.
