True, Gai could not kill Madara. But you have to admit he inflicted the most damage to Madara in the history of people Madara has ever fought(I know he regenerates)(not counting Black Zetsu :leaf.

That is amazing for a guy who has no special high tier enhancements. Plus Gai was not at full strength/best condition after using 7th gate in his first attempt, fighting Obito, fighting Bijuu(used Gates in that), and Zetsus/swordsmen but he ALMOST KILLED MADARA. You gotta give him some credit.
