Hello my fellow OP fans. How are you all doing? Terrible I hope. Ok lets cut the pointless small talk and get straight to the point. This thread is about the recruitment of the final 4 SHs which I believe are, in order, Jimber, Tashigi , an Elbaf and Smoker. I will be providing lots of evidence to support my claims but unfortunately, there are no pictures in the thread. The full version of this thread was made my buddy @beck26, the main mastermind behind this theory, over at OnePieceBay. However, OPB is offline right now so you’ll all have to stick with this lame prototype for now. Once OPB gets back online, I will copy and paste the full version(among other of his masterpieces) asap. Once again, lets go straight the main point.
Oda’s Characters Changed
Oda’s Story Changed
SH Recruitment Pattern
Jimbei; Knight of the Sea

Elbaf Warrior
White Hunter Smoker
God was making this deal an ordeal. I hope you all enjoyed this because making this wasn’t as fun as I thought……
Oda’s Characters Changed
As we all know, One Piece was created way back in 1997. We also know that Oda drew the original SHs and certain aspects about them got switched around. Here are the original SHs: Luffy, Zoro, Nami, Usopp, Brooke, Chopper, a small penguin shipwright, and a cowardly plant-loving spikey gray-haired guy.
Luffy: His design(red top, blue shorts) was set in stone.
Zoro:His design was set in stone but he was originally going to be a member of Buggy’s crew.
Nami: She was originally going to be a melee fighter who wields a giant axe. As time went by, she was changed to someone who had a cyborg arm to wield a giant axe. The cyborg thing was obvious given to Franky but what about the axe? I believe that is going to the Elbaf Warrior. The female melee fighter? That’s going to Tashigi.
Usopp: He was originally going to be the BRAVE Vice-Captian and his attire consisted of typical pirate captian gear.
Brooke: Yes Brooke. He was already drawn way back in 1997 and he wasn’t revealed until 2007. He was a skeleton and everything.
The designs of Chopper, Franky, Sanji and Robin were thrown around a lot.
Chopper: He was originally going to be a tall, chain-smoking swordsman who wears a polo shirt. The chain-smoking part was given to Sanji and Chopper gained the size of the penguin shipwright. What about the polo-wearing swordsman part? It went to the only polo shirt-wearing swordsman in the series;TASHIGI!
Penguin Shipwright: His size was given to Chopper and his role was given to Franky. The penguin later on became Aokiji’s pet.
The spikey gray-haired plant lover guy: His cowardly personality was given to Usopp. His love of plants was given to Robin and the guy turned into the only spikey gray-haired guy in the series; SMOKER THE STRAY DOG!
Luffy: His design(red top, blue shorts) was set in stone.
Zoro:His design was set in stone but he was originally going to be a member of Buggy’s crew.

Oda’s Story Changed
As I said earlier, OP was created in 1997 but did you know that it was supposed to end in 2002? OP was supposed to be a pure children’s show but it was so popular with both kids and adults that Oda decided to extent the series. He made it clear in 1999 just before the Arlong Park arc. Sanji said “are you really going to the Grand Line with just 5 people?” and Luffy replied with “I can get more in the Grand Line!”
Oda got himself into quite a dilemma with the Ancient History stuff. He already cemented Luffy as a dumbass who doesn’t even care about reading. This lead the creation of NICO ROBIN. This way, Oda had someone to fill in the archeologist role and explain the history. As for Smoker, I’ll get to that later when I explain his recruitment.

SH Recruitment Pattern
Before I talk about Jimbei and the others, you must realize an important thing about the SH recruitment: THERE IS A PATTERN.
East Blue
Zoro(1st male recruit)
Nami(2nd female recruit)
Gaimon(failed recruit)
Usopp(3rd male recruit)
Sanji(4th male recruit)
Crocus(Roger pirate meet at the end of east blue)
Grand Line
Chopper(1st male recruit)
Robin(2nd female recruit)
Vivi(failed recruit)
Franky(3rd male recruit)
Brooke(4th male recruit)
Silvers Rayleigh(Roger pirate meet at the end of grand line)
New World(thoery)
Jimbei(1st male recruit)
Tashigi(2nd male recrtuit)
Kin'emon(failed recruit)
Elbaf warrior(3rd male recruit)
Smoker(4th male recruit)
Scrapper(Roger pirate meet at the end of new world aka raftel)
But wait, there is more to it.
Both Zoro and Chopper were introduced chained/tied/restrained to something(Zoro restrained against a pole. Chopper tied to a sleigh). Both were revered as monsters(Coby referedd to Zoro as “Blood-thirsty demon. Chopper was literally called a monster by the Drum Island citizens). Luffy saved something important to them(Zoro’s katanas for Zoro, Dr. Kureha’s flag for Chopper). The main villains of both men’s recruitment arcs were men hated by their own people(Axe-Hand Morgan and Wapol). Zoro foreshadowed Chopper’s recruitment back in East Blue. When at a clinic, a doctor asked Zoro “Don’t you have a doctor on your ship!?” and Zoro replied with “A doctor? That’s a good ide… OWWW!!”
Both Nami and Robin were introduced as people who dislikes pirates. Both Nami and Robin, at some point, wore Luffy’s hat. Both women became temporary members of the SH crew. Both were women were involved in a rescue arc that revolved around a time limit scenario(Luffy had to be saved before he drowned. Robin had to be saved before she went to the Gates of Justice.) Both women, after repeatedly trying to shun their friends, eventually broke in tears and accepted their help. The villains in both of their recruitment arcs were responsible for the deaths of the recruit’s mothers. Nami foreshadowed Robin all the way back in early Alabasta. At a shop, Nami wore an outfit that was just like the one Miss All Sunday)Robin) wore.
Both Usopp and Franky were known as troublemakers in their respective towns.(Usopp was a compulsive liar, Franky was a gang leader). Both men lead a group that was named after them(Usopp pirates. The Franky family). Both men got a into serious fight with Luffy(Luffy vs Usopp in the Water 7 sores. Luffy vs Franky in the middle of Water 7). Both men joined the SHs AFTER they got a new ship(Going merry for Usopp. Thousand Sunny for Franky). The villains of both men’s recruitment arcs involved betrayel(Kuro betrayed his own crew. CP9 betrayed Water 7). Usopp foreshadowed Franky way back in Skypia. Usopp repeatedly told Zoro that he was no SHIPWRIGHT and needed his help patching up Going Merry.
Both Sanji and Brooke were introduced with something that produced smoke(tea cup and cigar for Sanji. Tea cup for Brooke). Both men were introduced atop a floating vessel. WAIT A MINUTE! Smoker wasn’t introduced atop a vessel. I know that. I’ll get to that later.

Jimbei; Knight of the Sea
Foreshadowing
The Potential SH needs to be an outcast of some kind
Jimbei is a pirate and can’t stay on Fishman Island anymore. He’s limited to the fishman district.
The Potential SH must have a long-term goal
Jimbei wants to all life/species in the world to live together in harmony
The Potential SH must atleast interact with the current SH crew
Jimbei had a lot of interaction with Luffy in Impel Down and Pre+Post Marineford. Jimbei interacted with the rest of the crew in Fishman Island.
Luffy must think he/she is a good person
Really? Jimbei saved Luffy numerous times and helped him fight his depression. Luffy even asked Jimbei to join his crew.
Role in the Crew
Jimbei could be the helmsman, but Franky handles that pretty well. Jimbei could instead be the crew’s Naval Force. He’d be the crew’s fatest swimmer, can communicate with sealife and most importantly, save the DF users when they drown. Lol
Color Scheme
Magneta. It’s the color of the sun pirates, the color of his scar and color of his robe when he was first introduced.
Quirks
Jimbei has this silly need to name plans and strategies. He is also a modest glutton.
Personality
Jimbei is pretty bland honestly but that would balance out the crazy personalities among the SH men.
Jimbei’s recruitment is pretty much set in stone. He fills in all of the SH criterias perfectly. The only thing that keeps people from thinking that Jimbei will join is that “He would break the balance of the M3” but you do you think Oda had Jimbei delay his recruitment? It’s to give Zoro and Sanji a chance to grow in strength and surpass him.
Zoro foreshawed Chopper’s recruitment way back in East Blue. Zoro wen’t to see a doctor for a serious injury and the doctor said “Don’t you have a doctor on your ship?” Zoro replied with “A doctor? That’s a good idea! Oww!” Zoro has foreshadowed Jimbei’s recruitment all the way back in arlong park. Look at Zoro’s jacket in the arc. The pattern on it is eerily similar to Jimbei’s facial marks. Also, Alrong Park arc was the first time Jimbei was mentioned by name.
Both Zoro and Chopper were introduced tied/chained/restained to something(Zoro was restrained against a pole. Chopper was tied to a sleigh). Jimbei was introduced chained up in Impel down.
Both Zoro and Chopper were viewed as monsters(Coby refered to Zoro as a “blood-thirsty demon.” We all know how the citizens of Chopper’s hometown thought he was literally a monster.) Jimbei is a fishman. All fishman are viewed as monsters by humans.
Luffy saved something important to them. Zoro’s katanas, Dr. Kurela or whatever’s flag and take your pic, Fishman Island/King Neptune/Noah for Jimbei.

Captain Tashigi
The first of the 2 most controversial potential SHs. Yes. Tashigi will be the second SH recruit. Before I can go into further detail with her, let us take a look at her history and foreshadowing.
History and Development
Possible Recruitment Arc
Foreshadowing
The Potential SH needs to be an outcast of some kind
Does Tashigi look like she fits in with G5? Like those G5 fodder said, she’s a flower in a field of dirty trash.
The Potential SH must have a long-term goal
Tashigi wants to collect all of the legendary swords from the “bad guys.” For a goal like that, she has to travel just like Nami and Robin. Tashigi is also the only marine/woman to express an ongoing long-term goal.
The Potential SH must atleast interact with the current SH crew
Tashigi had lots of interaction with Luffy, Zoro, Nami and Sanji in PH. And guess what? When she saw the Franky Shogun, she was unimpressed just like Nami and Robin.
Luffy must think he/she is a good person
She helped Luffy on numerous occasions and Luffy even thinks Smoker is a good person.
Role in the Crew
The records keeper I guess? She has a good memory and a habit of keeping records. She will also fill up the swordsman trio.
Color Scheme
Indigo. It’s a combination of purple and blue. Before anything says “it can be a combination” then what about Franky? His color scheme is cyan which is light blue.
Quirks
Her bad eyesight and her arguments with Zoro. She is also easily embarrassed.
Personality
Tashigi will be a breath of fresh air in the SH crew. Her calm, caring, modest and somewhat boyish attitude will be a good contrast to Nami’s super girly, bossy and violent attitude and Robin’s mature, motherly, reversed and morbid attitude.
History and Development
Tashigi was introduced with a pure black and whit perspective of marines and pirates. All marines are good and all pirates are evil. Throughout the series, you can see Tashigi’s view on the government and pirates are gradually changing. At mairneford, she thought the marine’s continued slaughter of the pirates was wrong and unjust. In Punk Hazard, she fought alongside pirates and even had a party with them. Hell, she even begged Nami, a pirate, to let her watch over those kids. She definitely doesn’t have the black and white view anymore and that will change completely with her recruitment arc.
As a kid, Tashigi still had her sword fetish. In her child panel, she obviously is very gleeful about a book of swords. Something must have happened to her that gave her this black and white view on pirates.

Possible Recruitment Arc
Dressrosa arc: Dressrosa, G5 and Punk Hazard are in close proximity to each other. How do you think Vergo got form G5 to PH so quickly? How do you think Doflamingo got from Dressrosa to PH so quickly? Its not far-fetched to think the Sunny Team(Sanji and company) may be saved by Tashigi and G5(Tashigi may want to repay Sanji for saving her from Vergo). Tashigi boards the SH ship to help fight off Big Mam’s fodder, but due to a Coup de burst escape, she gets stuck with the SHs and is forced to travel with them.
Zou arc: Law gets his crew back and whatnot
Wanokuni arc: Here, Tashigi gets a new sword and goes through her sword fetish faze.
Kaido arc: The Luffy-Law alliance goes to Kaido’s snow Island and meet Drake. They make an alliance with him. This is when Tashigi learns of the Governemts corrupt nature from Drake, a former Rear Admiral. Tashigi really begins to question the WG now. She eventually the SHs defeat Kaido and they go their separate ways. By this time, Tashigi has developed a true sense of companionship with the SHs.
Big Man arc(Jimbei’s recruitment)
Rescue Tashigi arc: Word gets out that Tashigi helped pirates defeat a yonkou and that doesn’t sit well with Akainu. He strips Tashigi of her duties and has her to be executed. Luffy learns of this and goes to save her. Afterwards, Tashigi becomes a SHs. I’ll into more detail with this in Smoker’s section.

Foreshadowing
Back in east blue, Nami wore reading glasses. That was the first and last time Nami ever wore reading glasses. The only woman who wears the same reading glasses that Nami wore in that panel is Tashigi.
Oda always wanted 3 swordsmen in the SHs and a female melee fighter. Tashigi fits both descriptions. Remember the polo shirt thing I mentioned earlier?

Elbaf Warrior
Not much to say about this guy but if read recruitment pattern, you’d have an idea on what this guy may be like.
Foreshadowing
As can see that all of Usopp’s lies are coming true. He once said that he’s allied with Elbaf warriors and openly expressed his desire to meet one. I also think that the elbaf warrior will join after the SHs require pluton(which is buried in Elbaf). His color scheme may also be drown.

White Hunter Smoker
Character Creation and Problem and Foreshadowing
Foreshadowing
History and Development
Past
Possible Recruitment Arc
Smoker is Luffy’s Garp
The Potential SH needs to be an outcast of some kind
Smoker is a rebel who does what he wants. He is known as the marine’s Stray Dog because of it.
The Potential SH must have a long-term goal
Smoker will temporarly lack a real goal and his loyalties will be misguided. When Smoker joins the RA and they make him join the SHs, his goal will be found: TO BRING DOWN MAREJOIS.
The Potential SH must atleast interact with the current SH crew
He has interacted with Luffy on numerous occasions and even had a party with the SHs.
Luffy must think he/she is a good person
In Alabasta, Luffy said Smoker wasn’t as bad as he thought.
Role in the Crew
The Spy. Smoker has very good detective skills and is good at wire tapping.
Color Scheme
Gray. Duh
Quirks
Smoker has this habit of stacking rocks and HATES when people cause him to mess up and bangs on doors. He greatly prefers doorbells.
Personality
He will be the intelligent badass rebel who constantly butts heads with Luffy. Zoro is badass but he is an idiot and a fool.
Remember the spikey gray guy I mentioned earlier in the thread? He became Smoker in 1997. Oda changed the course of his series in 1999 and there was a serious problem: SMOKER WAS INTRODUCED TOO EARLY. Because of that, Oda couldn’t use the regular SH cycle for him.
Foreshadowing
Both Sanji and Brooke were introduced with something that produced smoke(tea cup and cigar for Sanji. Tea cup for Brooke). Smoker was introduced with cigarettes. Both men were introduced atop a floating vessel. This is where Oda messed up. Because of his early intro, Smoker couldn’t follow the pattern but I realized something. Why can’t Oda re-introduce Smoker as a non-marine aboard a floating vessel? I’ll go more into that later. In Sabody Archepaligo, Sanji was smoking 3 cigars at once and said "Duval. What the hell is this disgusting list!?" Sounds like something Smoker would say right? That was the first and only time we see Sanji smoke multiple cigars. Smoker is the only other person who smokes multiple cigars at once.
History and Development
Smoker is a dynamic character. He was introduced with this pure black and white view on pirates. But Smoker’s actions and his words seem very different no? The things he says screams of absolute justice(pirates will always be pirates, pirates are scum) but the things he does screams of moral justice(letting Luffy go to repay his debt) and vice-versa. Smoker’s faith in the WG was tested in Alabasta as Smoker was pissed that the WG tried to cover up Luffy beating Crocodile and in marineford. Smoker thought the continued slaughter of pirates was unjust and wrong. It makes me think that something big happened to Smoker and he hates pirates because of it. However, his “willingness” to cooperate with Luffy is due to something that I will once again, get to later.
Past
For the coming of One Piece Film Z, Oda drew several characters as children. Smoker was one of them. Smoker is in rags and dirty. He looks like the child of pirate. I believe Smoker wanted to be a pirate or even the pirate king (In loguetown, Smoker displayed great respect and admiration for Gol D. Roger). In Water 7, after Aokiji froze Luffy, he said “Smoker has a message for you…nevermind. Its too stupid….” If it was simple “I’m gonna capture you!” then why even bring it up? I think the message was “I had the same dream as you once.” However, something big happened and it made Smoker hate pirates and want to be a marine.
Smoker and Kuzan(Aokiji) are obviously good friends and go way back. Both men believe in moral justice, never held the WG in high esteem and joined the marines. I think there was a third person in their clique of friends. As Aokiji was leaving Water 7 he said, “Sorry little bro.” That was after he froze Luffy. At first, you would assume that Aokiji was apologizing to Smoker but why? Because he stole his prey? Aokiji knew Luffy would survive so why say to Smoker? I think the person Aokiji was apologizing to was….MONKEY D. DRAGON. “Sorry little bro. I froze your son” makes a lot more sense.
Yes. Dragon was/is good friends with Smoker and Kuzan. All 3 men dreamed of changing the world via their own justice(by way of the marines). Dragon was the first to give up. The Ohara murder made him defect from the marines and create the Revolutionary Army. Dragon offered Aokiji and Smoker a position but they declined (Aokjij thinks a revolution is too extreme and Smoker has a new hatred for pirates and thinks the WG is justice). Akainu becoming Fleet Admiral made Aokjij the second one to leave the marines and join the RA. Tashigi’s execution attempt will cause Smoker to be the last one or leave and join the RA.

Possible Recruitment Arc
After hearing that Tashigi was jailed and meant to be executed, tries to confront Akainu but gets out in his place. With no hope left, Smoker defects from the marines and decides to hunt down Luffy once-and-for-all. Smoker gets defeated and tells Luffy about Tashigi’s execution. After Tashigi is saved, Smoker disappears and joins the Revolutionaries.
After this, Akainu will view the SHs as a major threat and decides to hunt them down himself with a giant fleet complete with the admirals. The Revolutionares will step in and aid the SHs against the onslaught.
Eventually, Luffy will meet his father Dragon on top of a floating vessel. Theres, Luffy will meet the new non-marine Smoker again. Dragon and Aokiji will make Smoker join the SHs to represent the RA and watch over Nico Robin.

Smoker is Luffy’s Garp
The most used argument against Smoker’s recruitment. Smoker is not Luffy’s Garp. That role is reserved for Coby. People think Smoker was Luffy’s first rival but that’s not true. It was actually Coby. They declared their rivalry in the very first arc of OP. Why do you think Coby is progressing in strength so quickly? As for Smoker, he is the marine version of Luffy. Luffy and Smoker are 2 sides of the same coin. Both men do what they want. Both men care about their subordinates. Luffy is dumb, reckless and goofy. Smoker is intelligent, calculating and serious.
God was making this deal an ordeal. I hope you all enjoyed this because making this wasn’t as fun as I thought……
