A 400-pound asthmatic Staten Island dad died Thursday after a cop put him in a chokehold and other officers appeared to slam his head against the sidewalk, video of the incident shows.




"I can't breathe! I can't breathe!" Eric Garner, 43, repeatedly screamed after at least five NYPD officers took him down in front of a Tompkinsville beauty supply store when he balked at being handcuffed.




Within moments Garner, a married father of six children with two grandchildren, stopped struggling and appeared to be unconscious as police called paramedics to the scene. An angry crowd gathered, some recording with smartphones.

he was arguing with a cop about something and didn't do anything at all. Suddenly they started touching him and he said don't touch me. They forced him to the ground and choked him to death.

He broke up a fight. Apparently, he's been harassed by cops before, so when the cop tried to arrest him, he got really annoyed and told him to just leave him alone because he didn't do anything wrong. A second cop grabbed him from behind and put him in a chokehold. A bunch of other cops swarmed him and they pushed him to the ground, where one cop pushed one side of his face against the ground and knelt down on the other side. The man, while they were trying to handcuff him, started saying he couldn't breathe, most likely because at this same time, the 6 cops were all on top of him despite him not actually fighting back at this point. He then passed out, and they called an ambulance, but he died.
