I thought it was time to also criticize my favs at times so I made one of these for 4 of my fav manga that have their own sections on the base, check them out
the 3 biggest gripes I have with Hunter x Hunter
1. The art: this one is self-explanatory, though the anime does kinda make up for it
2. The Narration: while the narration does work in some cases, there are also many sections where it simply does not work and makes everything too slow, many things told through the narration would be much better if they were told through characters and shown visually, sometimes the narration assumes that the reader is too stupid and just explains too much and sometimes something that has already been said by a character is repeated by the narration
3. the very detailed explanation and planning from Togashi: this is actually one of the main strengths of the manga but imho it can also drag it down because Togashi sometimes simply goes too much into details or tries soo hard to tie all loose ends that it becomes unrealistic, I know it brings a degree of ''smartness'' (I feel stupid using that word) to the manga but the careful planning and detailed story-telling etc sometimes just makes it all unnatural and creates situations (like for example a certain sequence of events) that would be impossible or simply wouldn't work if this was not a pre-planned fiction, hence, unnatural. I honestly don't know how to properly explain this one so I'll try with an example: since this was recently in the manga I'll give this one, when Ging gave the election rules to Beans who would draw one from the box, the entire exchange between them worked to build the character of Ging and make him look smart and come off as a badass but that only worked because Togashi made his prediction happen but in a real world something like that can't really work because the law of large numbers alone says that at one point after a predictiton like that the predicted thing simply won't happen and it is likely that Ging would just be made a fool, in reality there are just so many things that could go wrong that predicting and planning something like that is simply to risky and would just seem foolish and overly-confident. Sorry but I honesty can't come up with a better explanation atm.
