I just downloaded the demo on PSN, and I'd like to tell you about the changes that have been made. This makes me kind of excited. This is way different from previous games, and is very bold in changes.
First off, there are 2 new special moves available. Guard breaking and countering. Guard breaks are like the team dash in storm 3, but it stuns an enemy instantly, but can only be used twice. Countering is when you, well, predict when an opponent attacks, activate it, then, if timed well, it stuns them for an entire combo-level time. This has no limit of how much it can be used, but takes out a chunk of the chakra bar like an instant awakening. This could be used in defense against teleportation spammers ect. However, you can not use this if your enemy has gotten you into a combo.
THERE IS NO TEAM GAUGE, THE ENTIRE SYSTEM IS CHANGED!
There is now the storm guage, which fills when you use your supports, use chakra, deal damage, or receive damage (and takes a while to fill).
There are now 3 types of teams you have that are related to this that you can select for presumably any number of teams regardless of characters.
1. Ultimate type.
This is the only team allowed Ultimate jutsus. They are the ultimate jutsu spammers. This sounds overpowered, in a way, it might be, but this is countered by the fact that this is the only thing special about the team. There are no other benefits. If you have a special team like Naruto's family and Sasuke and Itachi, you get, as the trailer showed, special-looking team ultimates. Much like the team guage's function, the storm guage being filled gives you a team ultimate jutsu. However, it's more lethal. The team members charge one at a time, increasing the chance of it connecting.
2. Awakening type (my favorite, mwahahahaha)
This team has access to awakenings. This team has access to the instant awakenings from storm 3. Every one will have an instant awakening, even those that have previously required adversity awakenings. Of course, as you'd expect, this leads to being one of the most lethal in combos or special abilities. Further more, if you fill the storm guage, you'll gain access to the "true awakening" which is basically what was the adversity awakening, except that it doesn't require full health, but a full storm guage. You can have green health and still use it, but don't worry, it's unlikely that someone fills the storm guage more than once.
3. Drive type
Basically, this is the teamwork-oriented team.
Remember the special abilities of the team gauge regarding supports? Well, this is similar, but there's no balanced supports from what I've seen. Basically, right off the bat, you have either defensive or offensive mode for your supports, which carries the same function as last games. You can switch back and forth the modes by sacrificing a little bit of chakra. Also, if by sacrificing a large piece of chakra, you can access drive level 2, which results in your supports using both functions at the same time for a temporary amount of time. It also lets you use support ninjutsu far more rapidly. Each use of activating level 2 fills up the storm gauge a good bit as an added bonus. When the storm guage is filled, you can use a sealing jutsu. What this does is for a limited time, take away ultimate jutsus, awakenings, and limit the enemy to 2 substitution bars while doing a little bit of damage. In my experience, the drive type fills up the storm gauge the fastest by far.
This may be one of the most ambition Naruto games we've ever seen. It also seems like it may be more balanced. If your character doesn't have a particularly strong awakening or ultimate, he/she can simply go over to drive type for team work and restricting those abilities on the opposite side. I'm very excited for this game, and really, no one should be able to say that CC2 didn't put effort into this. I recommend getting the demo on PSN.
