But IMO I thint he would not have tried to save him, because he is a realist who likes to do things by himself and would not waste his chackra in trying to save him.
By doing so, he would focaus all his power into attacking Kaguya in which case I see two situations occuring.
(1) He may stall her long enough and get lucky if back up arrives.
(2) Kaguya would stomp him and completly take control of NV untill Naruto finds a way out to save everybody.
