the branches are catching the people, not the tree limbs. (well technically the tree and limbs are, but the branches are wrapping them up) so, yeah, it'd be totally illogical to think that he cut the entire tree limb or use a mouth rasengan. :/

That will be little bit abnormal for human to charge Rasengan with mouth!
I think, he tried to cut thinner branches with his leg through Wind release!!
I think an upper cut kick coated with Wind chakra can do the trick!!
