I am not sure where you got that false information from! Mizukage casts the Genjutsu on everyone surrounded by the radius of the mirage. That is why Shinobi are affected by it. [

In what you posted, Sasuke knew they were genjutsus but was still effected by them.

Sharingan can see through genjutsus, as in realize what's real and what isn't, but it's still effected by the genjutsu.

So what you, and many others here, have been arguing for is simply a misunderstanding.

Also, Mizukage's illusion seems to be very real, as noted that it was the mirage smacking around the alliance and putting holes in Gaara's sand while the real Mizukage was sitting on his clam behind some stone formations. So regardless if Itachi can "see through" it or not, it's still going to hurt him.

How can itachi's sharingan see under wide-range gen ?

True, the mirage masks chakra.

However, I think that must be a mistranslations. Why would he be effecting himself?

Also, I see the mirage as a collaboration genjutsu. The clam pumps out the mist which Mizukage uses as a medium for his Inton.
