Yeah. I know. I've been told. >_> I've been busy with school and gfx and haven't been paying much attention to anime/manga news.
I watch it for the animation more than the storyline. As an animator, I watch stuff for inspiration. The light novels are better in my opinion. For you, watching SAO for the story is like reading playboy for the recipes. If you want the story, read the light novels.

Well technically you're 7 months late, not 6.
And...... I think that you guys can't say yet that the LN>Anime because we haven't seen GGO yet, it could be butchered just like Fairy Dance but it could also be the entire thing.
It's most likely going to be butchered though because if I recall GGO is made out of volume 5 and 6, and 5 was like 400 pages as opposed to the normal 270.
And if you just watch anime for the animations you need to check these anime out.

2. Garden of Words
3. 5 Centimeters per second
4. Attack on Titan
5. Fate/Zero
6. Angel Beats
K has the best animation I've ever seen, literally.
Garden of Words and 5 Centimeters per second have a different type of animation and it's also magnificent.
