How the hell is he confidently telling Kakashi that he believes Naruto is the child of prophecy?

Sorry, it's true that great toad said that, but Jiraiya never thought about Naruto as the child of prophecy. If you check out chapter 382 where everything flashes into Jiraiya's mind, he notices that toad was talking about Naruto. But the current chapter says something else, that is, Jiraiaya already started thinking Naruto as the child of prophecy.

I don't mean to sound like a downer or anything, but I think that people should be thankful that Kishimoto even remembers Jiraiya and cared enough to include him in the recent manga chapter- alot of other deceased characters aren't getting that priviledge.

I thought the same thing when I read that part. However I am willing to give Kishi a pass, it has been a great Manga!

I'm fine just seeing Jiraiya regardless of what he's saying. I think he has faith that Naruto can change things, not necessarily that he even believes in a prophecy at all. Jiraiya never struck me as a dude who would put all his faith in a prophecy anyhow. He put his faith in Naruto, regardless of prophecy...I miss him so...

This scene by the railing was familiar and I found the scene where Kakashi talked to Jiraiya about the Akatsuki on the same rooftop with a railing. The chapter was 143 and Jiraiya explains his knowledge of the Akatsuke to Kakashi. I think its safe to say that the scene shown in today's manga was an extension of that scene not shown until now. In chanter 143, we obviously did not know about the child of prophecy thing nor Naruto's relation to Minato so that kind of revelation would have been to much. Therefore, I believe this was always part of their conversation back than, but it wasn't revealed until now.

As for him knowing Naruto was the child of prophecy, it was basically him or Nagato. But we know Jiraiya was under the assumption Nagato was dead due to the rumors he heard about him. So knowing he would train Naruto, it could be considered logical he considered him the Child of Prophecy before knowing Nagato was still alive.

remember nagato was supposed to be dead then jiraiya figured out the mystery of pain so jiraiya did believe it was naruto until he saw the rinnegan

then he thought Minato was the child, but he died as well.
Back then, Jiraiya had no idea that Nagato was alive. After finding out nagato was alive, he was conflicted. Then, in his last moments, he fianlly decided that naruto was the child of prophecy.

Its like People are trying their best to find faults even when there are none
