Madara is more experienced in a fight, has a much more powerful sharingan than itachi, and has mastery over it so itachi's genjutsu is no match for Madara.. His taijutsu seems more impressive too. And Madara's chakra is much stronger than itachi's. Madara is overall stronger than itachi. As he was able to go head to head with hashirama himself.
