Doesn't have hentai.

There is no fanservice.

There weren't any bad fillers, if you actually remember most of it it all served a purpose to the main plot.

People are just mad because the 2 main characters ran off and had some romance time in a forest for a few episodes and the other characters didn't get proper development.
People are also mad because it turned into a ''gay fairy game'' eventually.

To be honest, if you like Kirito and you like the other person he is going to meet, you will love this anime.
If you don't like Kirito then you won't like this anime because this mainly revolves around him and the other characters don't really get any development.
For a hentai go look at 16.5. For fan service you must be a blind man not to notice it. As for fillers the thing with that girl and her gang that got killed off in a trap by a bunch of dwarfs was never of any use. Same goes for that guy who killed his wife. Also there is no development for the main characters since Asuna went from being a badass female lead to a generic incapable tsundere. More like character downgrading.

Lol what are all you you talking ? Season 2 isn't even released yet. First episode comes July 5th.

OT: It's good if you like romance and action more as a side genre. I enjoyed it because of that.

I added the Asuna part in the edit.

There is legitimately no fanservice/barely any in this anime.

And there isn't a season 2 either, you guys keep saying season 2 but that's Gun Gale Online.
ALFheim Online could've been a season 2 but they butchered it, it's way shorter than the volumes in the novel.

The rest here is spoilers for anyone else who is reading.

The girl and her gang who got surprise attacked did serve a purpose through the entire series if you haven't noticed, it was all part of Kirito's development.
The guy who killed his wife did have a purpose, although it wasn't as significant as the other side stories.
It involved Kirito and Asuna's development, not to mention the story of Kirito sleeping under the tree and Asuna coming along, that was a major part actually, it has been recalled numerous times in the novel.
The explanation of marriage between people was also quite significant.
Explanation about armor breaking and teleporting too.
The rest of it was all not needed though.

Asuna isn't really a tsundere, she actually liked Kirito from the start, the tsun part was just a facade.
And if you tell me to look at 16.5 you're telling me that there is fanservice in 1 episode?
I haven't even watched that episode because it's most likely a recap if it's .5

It's good. I like it.
Although, the second season (episode 15+ i think) they go into a new game. And in my opinion it drags on a bit.
But its good. Animation, story, the feels, very good. <3

Its a mediocre anime in my books. Its not bad, but there's lost potential throughout the anime. (I'm not including the light novels since I didn't bother to read them) Most people who didn't like it, myself included, will have to admit that the artwork and animation was spot on throughout the series. The battles never seem to disappoint and always looked great.

One problem that I saw was that there were unnecessary time-skips in the first part of the series that could have touched to further expand the world of SAO. One minute its only been a few days then BAM, its almost been a year an episode later.

Another problem is that the main heroine, Asuna(?)(I don't remember her name), could have been a strong female character from the beginning but in the end became an anime Princess Peach. She had all the foundation to become one (though I'm not going to spoil it for the sake of letting you have your decision), but then her expected and otherwise cliche romance kicked in and then her character development went south.

So is it a great anime, no, its just one of those other anime you find in the roster of an anime season. It was terribly over-hyped last year and it left most of the anime community with a bad taste in its mouth to the point where its bashed. That's my take on SAO. I'd link you to anime reviews of SAO on YouTube but almost every anime reviewer I've seen has bashed worse that most of us here could.

So watch the anime if want to, its 26 episodes I believe, and if your interested, move on to light novels afterwords (there's a movie as well) and there is fanservice in the anime, the main character's cousin, and it's ridiculous.

It's ok. Season 1 or episode 1-15ish are the best of the series. Season 2 or the latter half of the series is where it becomes bad imo. It's definitely not bad, but you should watch the first episodes (season 1) and see if you like it. I particularly don't care for how the plot revolves around:
the cast escaping from this video world when it was supposedly something they all were excited for, but that's just me being nitpicky. I also probably had higher hopes for a gaming anime.

Log Horizon is somewhat similar to SAO if you find it interesting or looking for another anime that takes place in a virtual world. Also SAO 2 comes out some time soon-this summer.

It is easy to criticize it and every anime viewer these days thinks they are a bloody critic.

However regardless of its flaws, I found it thoroughly enjoyable. The animation and music is excellent and I really like the main character.

If your head isn't up your own arse, you should like it.
