Yea but that is from the perspective of Tobi/Obito who didn't know the real story.. he only heard it from madara who had no idea what IT was except from the alternate tablet.

Even if it wasn't the core and we assume she was sealed at the same time as the jubii, maybe her IT wasn't as wide spread? Maybe it required the tree to grab it's victims for them to be trapped.

The moon is only needed for it to reach a planetary scale. Madara used it on Obito when he was a kid.

I believe there was another moon before the current one based on there being two moons in the fight between Indra and Ashura, while others believe she used her Byakugan somehow.

To get technical it said Eternal not Infinite. It could potentially be the same thing but on a smaller scale. After the moon was created it just created a greater medium from which the genjutsu could be cast.
