Why did Hashirama obey Orochimaru during the attack on Konoha arc in part 1 but the second time orochimaru tried it he could only control Tobirama. Why?

He was a weaker edo tensei during the attack on Konoha. So he couldn't resist.

orochimaru the first time bound hashirama and tobiramas personality so he had full control of them

the second time he didnt bind their personalities so they could answer sasukes questions so im guessing hashirama with his personality intact wasnt able to be controlled like tobirama was.

I personally want to assume it's because he did away with their personalities so quick and had full control of them,
Also,it wasn't till part 2 that the 1st was hyped to holy hell.
So kishi initially probably had no intention of bringing him back at first.

Because in part 1 Kishi didn't plan the story that further ahead.

Also if I have to be techical, the edo tensei was far weaker.

This time, Orochimaru revived them using Hashirama's cells to strengthen the binding power of his jutsu. This brought the Hokages back to almost full power, rather than the measly fraction they were brought back in during Part 1. This effectively caused Orochimaru's intentions to backfire, instead of strengthening the binding power of the technique, it granted them the access to their power they needed to break free of the binding. The fact that it was Hashirama's own DNA allowed him to break free completely, and the fact that Tobirama is Hashirama's brother, and thus related to the DNA, allowed him to resist, but not as much as Hashirama.

In short, he was unable to break free in part one.

isnt it because oro's ET was sronger the second time so the edos came back with 'close to their original power'. Hashi is strong enough to break the casters control over him. Madara prob could have done the same thing but if i remember correctly kabuto just let him do what he wanted to so he didnt need to.

Easy! As someone has already mentioned, when Orochimaru resurrected them the first time, he had completely wiped their personalities - he placed a talisman in their heads.

But when he resurrected them the 2nd time, he allowed them to retain them personalities.
