So basically... The akatsuki was Nagato's plan which was secretly Obito's plan which Obito was Madara's plan in which Madara was Zetsu's plan and finally which Zetsu is Kaguya's plan?

Jeese, I'm starting to wish that after Itachi defeated Kabuto and released Edo Tensei, Madara died and Obito got defeated and everyone lives happily ever after.

When a villain says 'I set up Akatsuki' that shows that they fall into the chain, it's just another unnecessary part of this unnecessary chain. Especially as he's like the fourth person who has said that.

How can you grow close to BZ or Kaguya when they could just get replaced next chapter by an even higher power that was just 'controlling' Kaguya?

You're taking the ''manipulation'' concept too literal. Black Zetsu did not manipulate everything. He simply left components that other people would make use of and do it on their way. Pain wanted to gather Bijuu for destruction purpose. Obito wanted to use Bijuu for peace purpose. Madara wanted to use Bijuu for power purpose. All of them had their will and mindset under their control. Besides that, black Zetsu never shown to control anyone mentally. His statement was an exaggeration. It's not true.​
