But why I would like Shikamaru to die is, now Sasuke and Naruto are working well. (Just like Hashirama and Tobirama). When Naruto becomes hokage, he will surely need someone to assist who is better at intellect than Naruto. So if Shikamaru is alive, he would be chosen for that post.
