Why is power so important for men

Why is power so important for men and women, the subject of such a strong desire to the point of being the cause of diseases or bad things like narcisism, when we all know that power is something extremely relative, that is only generated by our perception of hierarchy? (i.e., Obama is not powerful, the US armed forces are).

No he doesn't. Do the Pentagon's generals need Obama to make military manuevers? Hell they don't even ask for Obama's advice when it comes to strategies. Does the rifleman in the front line need Obama telling him to pull the trigger to shoot the terrorists in the face? **** the rifleman in the front line pretty much doesn't even remember the name of the POTUS. Power is a perception, an illusion. It only exists because we trust that it exists.

Human nature bro! Everyone wants power. Even I wanted that but I don't want to be like them. Like controlling every single person because they have that power and people get afraid/scared of them. Not necessarily. Power as we let it be, yes, but power can also exist through intimidation and force which is the type of power you are talking about with the military. That power is real. As for why, that's simple, it's our animalistic instincts that we haven't managed to break yet. It's nature to have an alpha male and it's nature for every male to wish to be the alpha male.
