I have seen some people trying to connect hamura to the death god. Most of them revolve around Hamura being the death god itself. I believe this is false. Most of us know that Hamura will eventually be shown since he was mentioned by both Hogoromo and Kaguya. I still think there might be a connection between him and the death god.
This connection may be that Hamura created it. I like many others believe that Hamura is the ancestor of the Uzumaki. The uzumaki clan themselves were most likely based on Onmyoji.
The scan shows Uzumaki specialised in seals and had lived very long lives.
Onmyoji also used seals and were known to live far longer than the average person.
There was also one more thing for the onmyoji were known for. Shikigami
I believe Shikigami translates "ceremonial god". Shikigami are a type of kami that are summoned by an onmyoji in order to assist them. They are generally invisible to the naked eye. It seems that only the conjurer can see them just as how the death god can initially only be seen by the user of the jutsu. Shikigami can perform other wise dangerous tasks that would be difficult for the onmyoji to perform such as spying. The onmyoji can also use shikigami to possess people. Just as how the death god possesses the user when they are trying to use the "reaper death unseal"
Shiki in Naruto means jutsu formula. For example the FTG mark is called a shiki.
It is also considered a seal. Now the reaper death seal is also a seal. The reason why the user is killed may be that the jutsu isn't properly understood since it is an old jutsu perhaps knowledge of the inner most workings were lost with the passage of time, thus leading to unskilled practitioners who ended up sealing themselves too . Just as how an unskilled onmyoji might be killed by his own shikigami. Or kishi just wanted the user to die.
What I am trying to say is that, Hamura presumably being the uzuamki ancestor may have been a seal expert like his descendants, he may also have had a potentially long life span and he may have created many different entities stored in the other masks in the uzumaki mask temple.
In conclusion I believe that the death god has a connection to Hamura. And that connection being that Hamura created it and the reaper death seal jutsu. Perhaps hamura created the jutsu as a last resort against kaguya or the juubi.
