Why do people thought that Obito would sacrifice himself to defeat Madara

Madara was meant to be defeated by Nardo and Barbecue SauceK until Kaguya came in. So are we just going to look at another 10 chapters of a backstory with Kaguya and her grandchildren? Maybe that Hamura dude was the one who originally wielded the Rinnegan then gave it away.
