The amount of Hackers are going to increase BY A LOT

Before you say this is a Gaming Debate it is more of a gaming related serious debate so please read.


A new game called "WatchDogs" has been released recently, the game is about hacking everything and having control of everything. Don't you think this would/will plant a "hacking seed"in people's heads? Considering the fact that a lot of 7 to 15 year old play this, It means it would be easier to morph the children's brains.You may say "No not really since how come shooting games don't effect them too much" I will say, because they know the consequences of what will happen if they commit a shooting crime but do not understand the consequences of the cyber world since they are behind a computer and think they are protected or at least anonymous.


I know someone in real life that has been inspired by this game and is currently trying to learn to hack.

Now I am not saying this will be bad or good, some may be white hat, some may be black hats and some grey. I am leaning towards black hats because white hats are not going to excite people as much.

And to add to this, I AM GOD DAMN JEALOUS of these little kids, because I know they will learn in 3 months what I have learned the last 2 years about hacking >_>

I doubt it. At most, it's just going to be some script kiddies and only 1-2 percent will actually become a blackhat. I don't think they would have the patience to learn how to hack.

Oh yeah, and the hacking in Watch_Dogs doesn't even portray hacking. It's press 'x' to hack, and a puzzle here and there. It's not that simple.

Not really, it's not as easy as you think.

Getting a legit botnet without being screwed over is hard enough as it is.

I agree with you, there will be a lot will be scrip kiddies but I think there will also be quite a lot of actual hackers. With the current internet, It should be a lot easier to learn to hack, with anonymous also on the news I think a lot of people will get inspired.

They'll be inspired, but most will drop it in a week. I'd say that those who will actually go through with it 100 percent were already somewhat interested or curious in hacking before Watch_Dogs. I don't think that those who were instantly inspired by Watch_Dogs will actually go through, it's the hype effect.

A game making you think to be a hacker is delusional and contradictive to its reality.
The concept is known and probably wrongly interpreted by the mass because of the unclear semantics.

It can inspire people to start learning it, but it is beyond evidency whatsoever.
A 'hacker' taking a course of 3 months is NOWHERE near someone with over 3 years of experience. In that case you can say that guy is just a scriptkiddie. Because there are certain aspects he hasn't done yet or even the idea of doing it himself.

Everyone starts at a basic level, from thereon you decide what you gonna be.

Btw, to make something clear. Becoming a White Hat should be your goal. Why? Because every 'hat' that's not a White one is using the things a 'White Hat' makes. So essentially, a Black Hat is just someone who understands the mechanisms/procedures by reverse engineering and by discovering flaws he tries exploiting it to his/hers advantage AND sell the acquired sensitive info to competing companies etc... So to make it clear: A White Hat is the person that makes frameworks such as Metasploit and coherent Modules etc.. A Black Hat understands its workings and in most cases doesn't have any idea how to make it. He basically makes use of it and that's all.

You can buy a botnet as cheap as Taiwanese's monthly pay without being discovered whatsoever. But that's for a certain period.
So the question is: Is it worth it trying to make 1? Although, it depends on what your goals are.

You're overestimating what the average human is capable of. Very few people playing those games will have the brain power to become a hacker and even fewer will have the right mindset from a moral and ethical perspective. Most people are too dumb to be hackers let alone good hackers. Games don't influence behavior that much most people understand that games are fantasy.
