And then THAT ancient guy becomes final villain! We know Kaguya and the Sage but what about HER FATHER!?!

I doubt she is intended to be a character like others are, she is essentially a final boss character, a giant monster everyone has to work together against.

Its done a lot in Japanese stories, usually video games.

I don't remember Kingdom Hearts or Final Fantasy throwing a random character we've never met before into the final half hour or so of the game.
