Was Naruto growth "impeded" by others when he was younger because of the Kyuubi or is he really just kind of dumb like Hagoromo said.

This is the only thing I hate about Naruto. He's really, but really stupid. He can't understand things.

He can understand people, but if you try to explain something to him, you have to talk like talking to a 5 years kid. This is ridiculous.

Naruto is meant to be a bit of a simpleton. He's supposed to be light hearted and have the childlike essence.

He's not an idiot by any means, but he's not a genius like Shikamaru or Minato. He's not supposed to be.

Naruto is mentally retarded. He knows it as well. He has become very good at chakra control and distribution, and learned a few jutsu. Otherwise Naruto hasn't grown much. His reasoning and logic is the same as a 3 year old kid

Except, of course, when he's inside a fight and it's a crucial moment. Then he's above most other characters. I've seen Naruto come up with tactics way more complicated than Sasuke's, for example.

Once you get older though, the same reason that this makes you immature, can also make you that much wiser. Of course a child will act out, but as you become an adult, you'll start to see the world in a different light(if raised this way), and look at things differently than everyone else. It can cause somebody to be much more grateful for the things they accomplish and receive.

Goku is by no means an idiot like Naruto. Goku acts silly at times for comic relief. Naruto is genuinely stupid and retarded.

You guys are forgetting the feats that made him seem highly intelligent. Neji fight(hiding underground), Pein fight(creating clones before hand, using clones to catapult him forward with rasengan), there are other examples but I don't really feel like thinking about all of them right now.
