''Hello Ren, I am Jokey and I will be training you Ninjutsu, and Suiton. But first, let's start with Ninjutsu. ''Hello Ren, I am Jokey and I will be training you Ninjutsu, and Suiton. But first, let's start with Ninjutsu. Ren stands at attention and salutes Jokey-sensei. She recites what she knows with clarity and confidence.

"1. A ninja is one who endures. They fight for the well being of their village, doing whatever is necessary to accomplish their mission. The use of chakra allows a ninja to accomplish things that are beyond the abilities of those who do not use chakra.

2. Chakra is a mixture of the physical energy that comes from training and the spiritual energy that comes from the soul. By molding and manipulating chakra, a ninja is able to perform superhuman feats. A book I read theorized that the use of chakra is a negotiation between a person and the world to warp reality in a localized area, that the chakra expended was payment for the service, and that the molding of chakra, hand signs, and names are used to convey our desired outcome to the world. That is all theoretical, however.

3. The five basic elements are Katon (fire), Suiton (water), Fuuton (wind), Daton (earth), and Raiton (lightning). They are called the basic elements because they can be used by any who train hard enough in them, and because all other elements are comprised of a combination of these five.

4. Ninjutsu is the manipulation of pure chakra to accomplish feats that are unrelated to the elements. Basic examples include the substitution technique, the basic illusory clone, and more advanced examples include the shadow clone, the summoning technique, and hiding with camouflage technique.

5. I want to learn ninjutsu because I strongly believe that the fundamental ninja arts are underrated by many. I've already discovered that the basic E rank ninjutsu can be successful applied in far more situations than people give them credit for. Ninjutsu are versatile, and a ninja is one who must adapt. They may not look as impressive as elemental techniques, but a ninja's goal is the mission, not to look cool."

Though she had spoken very calmly and with practiced ease, Ren was still nervous that she might have said the wrong thing and made a bad impression on the first person to take an interest in her training.

''Perfect, nice job you did there! Alright, we shall now start with the very basic ninjutsu training. Do you have any control over your chakra? Just to make sure, I'd like you to sit down in a easy pose and meditate. You shall meditate underneath a wonderful tree, you shall feel the breeze coming by now and then so you could feel the nature at it's best. Close your eyes, keep your breathing in tact and feel the ground from underneath you. If you're relaxed, I want you then to tell me what you feel in details.''

Ren sat down on the ground under a nearby tree in a relaxed position, closed her eyes, and began to meditate. It took several minutes to clear her mind of background thoughts of her training and details of her daily schedule, and a few more minutes to push away thought about whether she looks silly right now or if she's doing it right.

Finally she began speaking without opening her eyes.

"I feel at once both fully aware of my body and unaware of it. It's like I have a strong understanding of my physical position, but at the same time it blends in with the bigger picture of the world around me and becomes insignificant. I can tell that at some point you moved from standing in front of me to standing off to my right side even though I didn't hear you move. Just by standing there, your much larger chakra is pressing up against mine and I can feel how my chakra automatically presses back in that direction. It took me a long time to notice it, and I don't think I could feel it if I wasn't meditating or you were purposefully restraining your chakra. I feel like I am getting tired from this exercise even though my body feels just as energized as when we started, which tells me that I must have more physical energy than spiritual energy left and that I have been molding chakra in my meditation to enhance my senses."

''Good, keep in mind that you can sense nothing if you can't have the sensing technique, but of course; If everything around you is silent, completely silent and your opponent moves, you would pick up the smallest details of hearing by explaining how. Their foot steps, the wind currents changing, everything.''

Jokey slightly paused, and told the woman to open her eyes.

''Alright. When you are in a battle with your opponent, you should pick up the slightest details. Use your surroundings, look closely where you are and use that to your own benefits. Use the very ground you are standing on so that you have advantage. Feel the weather, take it as advantage too. If it's sunny, and your opponent attacks you with a technique that comes falling from above then you could figure out by the shadow overlapping you. If your opponent uses some wind, you should start feeling it by the slightest wind currents; your hair and whatsoever. Fire technique's could be felt by the mere heat, water technique's by the sound of the beach, lightning by the currents that shall annoy your ear as if someone uses their nails to scratch on a chalkboard. If an earth technique erupts nearby you you should hear the cracks. But always keep in mind, that certain technique's produce allot of sound which means that even earthen cracks cannot be heard at times if an opponent uses it to use a sneak attack on you. I will now mention some technique's, and I want you to use your surroundings so that you could figure out why or when or how this technique shall happen, alright?

Jokey paused, and took out some scrolls upon his back which he opened, and showed his student.

(Doton: Ganchūsō) - Earth Release: Stone Spikes

''Alright, if your opponent used this against you, how would you find out it happens or shall happen?''

Ren examined the scroll and thought about it for a couple of minutes, taking into account the things that Jokey-sensei had mentioned about paying close attention to the environment. Finally, she had a few ideas about how to recognize that Doton manipulation was occurring in the ground.

"That technique distorts the earth and sends out rocky spikes. If I was standing anywhere near a location that the spikes would rise from and was paying close attention to my footing, I would notice vibrations in the ground as the earth shifted and might even feel my balance being shifted around as the earth churned below me. Otherwise, I would look for the ground to suddenly change, or listen to the sounds of rock and earth slipping past each other. If there was no wind and dust suddenly shot up from the ground, that could warn me that the earth would soon follow. I've also read that many Doton jutsu require the user to make contact with the ground such as by stomping a foot or slamming their hands. Such actions would be a giveaway that the earth was about to be turned against me."

''Perfect. Now I will ask you a few questions, and you'll have to answer them for me please.''

As Jokey took a deep breath, he looked towards his student and started asking away.

''1. What if we where standing on a desert? There's only sand, how would you figure out that I will most probably use the earth technique?
2. If I perform the ram handseal, and you notice my mouth starting to swell up. which element would you think that I'm using?
3. If It was raining, and your opponent would have used a A/S-Ranked lightning technique, would he hurt himself or not?
4. If your opponent had thrown a kunai towards you, while trying to communicate with you through talking, what would you do? Listen to him and react to his words, or rather do something else?
5. If I would use the oh so famous technique that Kakuzu used against Choji, Kakashi, Ino and Shikamaru, the wind technique that shattered everything in it's path, how would you figure out that your opponent was trying to use the technique beforehand, and with what technique would you protect yourself with. (You may only use D-Ranked technique's, meaning either Water, earth, wind, lightning, fire, ninjutsu, taijutsu or genjutsu. (The wind technique is the A-Ranked Atsugai, check the jutsu list to look it up))

''If you answer the above technique's, then we can begin training. I'm doing this for your own sake, so you remember how to react when you're in a battle etc.''

Ren carefully restrained her eagerness to learn new techniques and focused on answering her new sensei's questions, knowing that would keep her safer in the long run than any particular jutsu.

"1. Sand dunes are comprised of many many individual grains of sand. If someone were to use an Doton jutsu, the earth would need to rise up from beneath the sand and would cause a very obvious amount of sand to spill away from where the earth was rising up.

2. If you made a ram handseal and your mouth swelled up, I would think your were preparing either a Futon or Suiton jutsu, possibly '(Fūton: Atsugai) - Wind Style: Pressure Damage'.

3. If the rain was natural then I doubt the raiton user would hurt himself. Even if the rain was caused by a C rank Suiton jutsu, the high ranked raiton jutsu would vaporize the rain instantly, barely even slowing down. Even if the rain was somehow the result of an S rank Suiton jutsu, the user would need to be connected to water that is connected to the Raiton jutsu in order for conduction to occur and shock the user, which isn't the case with rain.

4. I would have to immediately deal with the kunai, either by dodging it or blocking it somehow. If would pay attention to my opponents words as even if they are meant to confuse me I might be able to gather useful intelligence for later use.

5. To use Fūton: Atsugai, one must make a ram handsign and inhale a large amount of air before they can exhale it to use the technique. This action would give away the use of a technique that is probably suiton or futon, and also likely to be shot out at high speed. I would defend myself by charging at my opponent to get as close as I could before the wind jutsu fired, and then perform a Kawarimi no Jutsu with an object that is nearby the opponent. Since the opponent can also be hurt by Fūton: Atsugai if they are not careful, they surely would not fire it in such a way that objects particularly close to themselves would be in danger."

Ren looked proud of her answer, but nervous that she might have broken the rules.

"I know you said to use D rank techniques and Kawarimi is an E rank, but I couldn't think of a way to use any D rank jutsu to deal with Asugai."

You could have used the earthen technique; Earth Release, Double Suicide Decapitation Technique to hide underground, travel through it and then attack your opponent. Good use when you're facing an Sharingan user, since he wouldn't see you being underground because of his own technique coating the ground. Byakugan users and Sensors would notice though.''

Jokey paused, and pointed at the tree before him.

''Alright, I want you to send chakra through your feet, and climb upon the tree. Give it a try and figure a way out how to send your chakra through it! ''

Description: This is a training method used to gain the basic skills of chakra control. This training involves focusing a fixed amount of chakra to the bottom of one's feet, and using that to climb a tree without using one's hands. If the stream of chakra is too weak, the user will lose their footing on the tree and fall off. If it is too strong, the user will be pushed away from the tree, causing the bark of the tree to break around the point of contact and the user to fall. This technique becomes second nature to shinobi with more practice.

It was a bit faster this time, though it still took several minutes to pull. She returned to using her right foot and found that it took her less time to stick than before. Ren alternated feet on the tree until, about 30 minutes later, she could stick to the tree on contact and decided to go to the next level.

She placed one foot onto the tree, then the other and proceeded to casually walk up the tree by switching feet.

After she felt she had gotten the hang of walking she started running up and down the tree, exhilarating in the sense of freedom.

Feeling that the exercise was complete, she finally stood at attention, still on the tree, and awaited Jokey-sensei's judgement.

''Perfect, now that you have learned how to walk on trees, you can now easily walk onto walls and sorts too. But of course, you do not need to use this technique during battle's when you do so. Now, you can passively walk onto surfaces that need you to either be upside-down or on the side. Keep explaining in your battle's that you do it though, it'd be nice to add a little detail explaining that you ''send chakra through your feet, and eventually walk onto the surface'' instead of just casually ''walking on a certain surface'' that needs chakra because you're a genin after all (considering that you'd rather want to stay one, or change your mind and become a Chuunin), once you become a Chuunin or S-Jounin, then I think that it won't be necessary.''

As Jokey paused, he gave the girl a hint to follow him as they now are nearby a lake.

''Alright ren, send chakra through your feet and try to walk onto this water. ''

Ren followed Jokey-sensei out onto the lake, and attempted her best ninja-jesus impression. She failed spectacularly and sputtered as she swum back to shore. Much more slowly and carefully this time, Ren carefully eased herself onto the water one foot at a time, gradually putting weight onto each foot as it was able to stay above water. She fell several times over the next few hours, but eventually she managed to stand on the water successfully.

She went on to practice adhering to the water in all manner of positions ranging from laying on the water to doing handstands as she waited for her instructor to decide that she was finished.

She put her hand down on the water and attached it to the surface in the same manner as the water walking technique, then began slightly changing the way the chakra flowed. Eventually she found a way to push the chakra into the water, and found that if she manipulated the chakra that had infused the water then the water would be manipulated as well. She also discovered that if she shaped her chakra into a container around a section of water, she could move the entire section as if she had put her chakra into the whole area which seemed to be a more efficient way then just saturating the water completely.

She played around with moving chunks of water and causing small waves, but had trouble with controlling any water that wasn't directly connected to her through her chakra. If she 'broke off a piece' of the water that she had infuse with her chakra from the rest, she lost all control over it though the isolated piece would retain it's previous properties for a short while.

Ren had a lot of fun playing with the water on a small scale, but waited for Jokey-sensei to give her further instruction on hand signs that would be helpful and other tricks since the water manipulation she had figured out how to do didn't seem very useful in a combat situation yet.

Cause it to move, create a small blast that is as big as a basketball and a small shield in front of your face. Keep your breathing in tact, keep your eyes closed.''
