Personality
In his youth, Kiritsugu wishes to be a "Hero of justice" that protects the weak. He is often haunted by Shirley's question about what he wants to become and how she believes him to have the ability to change the world. His hesitation to kill his first love when she became a Dead Apostle has resulted the death of the whole Island. Kiritsugu realizing that his father was the cause of this and he would continue his Dead Apostle experiment, he hardened his resolve and kills his father to prevent more deaths. Kiritsugu's goal was initially to make his actions on the day of killing his father by his own hands meaningful and worthy. Only by hunting and assassinating all Rouge Ninja like his father could he truly prevent such tragedies from occurring again. He lost all traces of youthful innocence after having spent his life going through countless battles while trying to obtain a utopia that could never be fulfilled. After finding out about the existence of the Infinite Tsukuyomi, he wishes to use it to obtain that utopia. He feels no emotion from personal victories over his targets, seeing them as nothing more than successful taunts with calculated resolutions.
In order to pursue his dream, he attempts to kill off most of his emotions, acting as the "machine that is Emiya Kiritsugu." He has managed to become completely devoted to any duty without showing any emotional wavering, though he is prone to fall into moments of extreme emotion and despair occasionally.
Kiritsugu tries to hold to the belief that there is no differentiation in sacrifice, that all life is equal and choosing the path leading to a smaller sacrifice is for the best. With a target that must be eliminated in order to save the world by obtaining the Infinite Tsukuyomi, killing one thousand people to save at least five billion more should be easy for him. He would soon let go of trying to save everyone, such ideas and sentiment would kill him on the battlefield, so he feels that he must rid him self of them as much as possible.

背景情報|Background Info
History
Kiritsugu came from a mysterious clan Infamously known as the Emiya that focused on Time based Ninjutsu. They constantly focused on developing their skills and experimenting to push the boundaries of its limits. Hoping to soon be able to Halt the aging process so they could always be in their prime and soon master all Ninjutsu in the world. But through multiple failed attempts and many sacrifices the clan has been nearly wiped out. That night Amegakures citizens were almost wiped out by a mysterious Pandemic that was a result of the Emiya constant experiments. Norikata Emiya was the only one left of his clan that had known what transpired. He was forced to leave the village with his only son Kiritsugu. Constantly on the run from the Villages Anbu. Kiritsugu was only 3 years old at the time.
Norikata was a very skilled Ninja he was apart of Amegakures Anbu up until his defection. The Village kept the events of that Night a secret from all neighboring countries. Acting as if it never happened. Norikata had successfully avoided the trackers for 7 years constantly moving from one place to another with his son. Kiritsugu never understood why they always had to move all the time. Whenever he was just getting used to his new home he'd leave it behind. Until they finally settled on a small island off the coast of the Land of Waves.
Kiritsugu and his Father lived their for about a year. Kiritsugu had made many friends on the island, everyday he would spend most of his time playing at the beach, pulling pranks, and protecting his friends from local bullies. Kiritsugu was happy for the first time in his life, to him he had finally found a place he could call home.
Norikata continued their clans research on halting the aging process. He never told too much to Kiritsugu about his research. He was much too young at the time. So he took in an apprentice, Shirley a local girl from the island who had skills in chakra control. Her parents had been killed in the Third great Ninja war. So she lived with them for the year they had their stay.
Over the course of that year Kiritsugu had developed feelings for Shirley but she had only seen him as a younger brother. One day Norikata made a breakthrough in his research when he successfully stopped a flower from showing any signs of aging after a month. He and Shirley were ecstatic about what this could mean for the future of the world. Later that night Kiritsugu went by the Lake with Shirley and had a talk. She asked him what he wanted to be when he was older and he nervously admitted his dream to become a hero. She laughed at first but settled down and told him that she believes he can do it. That someone like him could change the whole world if he wanted to, and she promised to stay by his side to see him achieve it.
The next morning Shirley wasn't at the House and Norikata looked distraught. He asked his son if he had snuck into his lab last night. But he said no confusingly. He told Kiritsugu to not go into town today and that they were leaving again. Kiritsugu was confused and worried about Shirley so he ran into town anyays when his dad wasn't around. He asked all his friends if theyve seen her but she hasnt been seen anywhere all day. After hours of searching he walked passed a small barn and heard strange noises. There was loud crunching sounds being heard in the Chicken coop. As he approached it he saw Shirley. He tried calling out to her but before he could even speak she turned around and stared into his eyes.
Kiritsugu froze... Her eyes were Redder than the blood she was covered with. Feathers in her mouth and a half eaten live chicken twitching in her hands. As soon as she saw Kiritsugu her first instinct was to rip his throat out. She let out a loud scream and tried to resist the urge to hurt him. She suddenly became conscious and scream at him. Her body felt like it was on fire. She kept squirming in pain without letting her gaze move away from Kiritsugus.
He just kept staring. He couldnt believe his eyes. His mind was going blank as the image he had of the girl he loved shattered as he saw her. After constant screaming for what seemed like forever to Kiritsugu she finally muttered some words under her breath... "Kill me.." Those words shocked Kiritsugu back into reality. She said it louder "Kill me!!!" "I dont wanna hurt anybody.." Kiritsugus mouth drops and his mind is racing. "No... i cant do that... we promised to be together forever... She's like family... Shes more important than family" "No matter what happens to her she's still shirley" She's yelling at him over and over the same 2 words. Desperately wanting to end her suffering and prevent others from sharing her fate. She knew what would happen if she wasn't killed right now. So she begged as she was constantly grinding her teeth and scratching at the ground holding back her killer instinct. Kiritsugu looks at her and begins crying and runs off to go find help. "Please someone help save her"
When he returns to the spot Shirley was at with the village chief shes already gone. They make their way back to town only to find it being attack by its own people. Friends and family turning on one another attacking and eating anyone they get their eyes on. One stares at Kiritsugu and its the same Red eyes Shirley had. Suddenly the town is set on Fire. Kiritsugu cant believe his eyes. His friends are becoming monsters while the place he called home is burned to the ground. Kiritsugus mind breaks. Hes lost it all. No home, no where to go, no one to call a friend, and Shirley was gone forever. He collapsed on his knees having given up on life. Surrounded by his the townspeople all staring him down moving closer and closer. He had accpted his fate when suddenly a mysterious Ninja appeared and made quick work of the infected townspeople.
Kiritsugu asked who she was "Natalia" she said. She told him that she was a Mercenary on a mission to kill whoever was the cause of all this. Kiritsugu was confused, who would cause such a thing. She told him that shes been tracking a Rouge Ninja from the Hidden Rain Village whos clan was using Humans to experiment using the Dead Apostles Jutsu to achieve a form of Immortality. She revealed how this isnt the first time something like this happened. That 8 years ago the very same Pandemic happened in the Hidden Rain village and it was caused by The Emiyas experimenting using forbidden jutsus that resulted in intense Bloodlust and was viral.
She said that they found who they thought was the originator of the virus on the island a young girl by the name of Shirley.
Kiritsugu had put it all together. Why they were always moving, why they were on the run, why Shirley became like that and why his home was taken from him. It was his father... He was blind with rage. But at the same time he came to a realization. That it was his fault as well. If he had just listened to Shirley and killed her right there. None of this would have happened. He could have at least saved his friends and the town from being destroyed. If he had killed the girl he loved no matter how much it would have affected him, it would have saved all those lives. This haunted Kiritsugu. And would continue to Haunt him for the rest of his life.
He went home and his Father was their waiting for him. His father asked him why he went to the village and disobeyed him. Kiritsugu said silently.. " i was only worried about shirley" His father suddenly turned his eyes aside when he heard the girl's name. Just that small gesture could completely confirm one fact. He asked him if he knew of what happened to her. "...About that girl, it's really a pity. Although I told her the reagent was very dangerous and to never touch it, it seems she still didn't win over her own curiosity." The tone in which he said it angered Kiritsugu. Its like he didnt care. He asked him why he was researching The Dead apostles Jutsu. He starting going off on how he was so close to perfecting it, that there was just something missing in his research. He starting talking about restarting his research elsewhere. Improving it and then finally achieving the Perfect immortal body.
An image of Shirleys cold pale body and her dark red eyes flashed in Kiritsugus eyes. He asked his father if one day he would eventually use him in his experiments and turn him into that monster. "Nonsense." His father said. "Someone who cannot control the vampiric urges and becomes a Dead Apostle is a failure... I told Shirley this a long time ago. Looks like the results of this experiment isn’t as good as I thought it’d be. I’d have to start from the basics and modify my theories again." "Kiritsugu, we’ll talk about this later. Now our top priority is to hurry and escape... I'm afraid there’s no longer time to pack. Soon those guys from the Foundation would see through the sealing barrier, We need to leave soon."
As he grabbed his suitcase and walked towrds the door all Kiritsugu thought was that his guards down. Time seemed like it was frozen for Kiritsugu. He raised his kunai in his Hands and while aiming at his Fathers defenseless back the scene of the vilage burned down to the ground and Shirleys tragic expression was constantly flashing before his eyes. Etching its image in his heart. He also remembered all the memories he had after living with his father for ten years, and the gentle sentiments that was hidden beneath his father’s stern look. His father loves him, and is full of expectations for him. He also loves his father deeply, and is proud of him.
Endless feelings tangled up and Kiritsugu wanted to close his eyes. But instead he charged and jammed the knife in his back. Stabbing him multiple times. He fell to the ground and was slowly bleeding to death. He turned and looked at Kiritsugu confused... He saw the knife in his hands and started begging for his life. All Kiritsugu did was stare with tears in his eyes. "Spare me..." his father said but Kiritsugu looked down at his father covered in blood and was reminded of Shirley covered in blood. "Kill me" was all he heard. Over and over again in his head he could hear Shirley screaming "Kill me." He charged at his father and jammed the kunai in his heart.
Kiritsugu thought to himself that if this man had been left alive to continue his experiments. That wherever they moved to next would suffer the same tradgedy that happened to Kiritsugus home. No matter how noble his intentions it would lead to the deaths of many people. He envisioned a scale and on one side he saw all the villagers. and on the other his Father. It was this moment that made Kiritsugu the man he is today. That the value of a humans life is equal. That some people need to be sacrificed for the prosperity of others. Because not everybody can be saved. Shirleys image was seen again in is head.
Right after the events transpired on the island he left it with Natalia. He spent most of his teenage years training with her. He would soon later go on many missions with her. Attempting to saves many lives but to no avail. He realized that the tragedy that he experienced as a child is something that happens everyday. After countless battles and seeing many lives lost he eventually killed off any sign of emotion he had left. He came to realize the world is beyond saving. That no one man could do it alone. He desperately sought an answer to his Utopia. Holding on to his promise to Shirley.
One day he crossed paths with a Masked man who gave him hope for the Paradise he was looking for.
