I doubt it was a pairing moment. It was just a moment and probably something to do with Hinata abilities.

I wouldn't say it was a pairing moment. Though it does illustrate a deeper connection between Naruto and Hinata that has existed since before the series was popular (I would argue it was part of the inception of the series).
Naruto and Hinata share the same destiny, and Kishimoto has made it a point to illustrate the two sharing very similar perils at the same moment. It's a phenomena I expect, but one many people are still vexed by.
Take her last appearance, where people couldn't figure out why it was that she was displayed as incompetent, tripping over a stone and blacking out when Naruto 'died.' Many of her fans and many of her critics failed to grasp the true meaning of the sequence - which was simply to illustrate a shared destiny/theme. Naruto was dying - and so, too, was Hinata (in a sense).
Think about it, going back to the Chuunin Exams.
Hinata was injured by Neji, but treated in the hospital and had been recovering for around a month or so. There was zero reason to have her injuries act up. There was no reason to take up all of that panel time with her having a medical issue in the audience (and then Kabuto is an interesting issue in all of that). It was inserted specifically to draw a parallel with Naruto's impending defeat against Neji.
Now... Kishimoto could keep the two as sharing the same destiny and yet not being a romantic couple.
Or he could tie it all up in a pretty bow at the end. It really is hard to tell..... he could just leave it all ambiguous. The point is that there is more going on than just drawing Hinata for the hell of it.
