Without Haku, there is no naruto. Haku established the main theme, which is to protect those you care about, and you will become even stronger physically and mentally.
Also, Before Naruto ran into Haku, he was selfish, not caring about teamwork and only caring about his own dream. After the Haku encounter, naruto realized what true strength really was, and ditched his selfish desires.
