In the last chapter it shows tenten looking at the sealed treasured tools. Maybe the sage of six paths sealed his brother with those tools in the fight that they had. The manga has barely talked about his brother so maybe somehow he will be released from the tools and will fight Madara?

This man is actually Hagoromo’s brother. He will destroy the Moon and God Tree with his Ramen No Jutsu and stop the Infinite Tsukiyomi. After that happens he tells Naruto and Sasuke that they can fight Madara without worrying about saving the people of the world, wanting to give the new generation a chance to prove their worth.
