if your are caught by a genjutsu from the level of tsukiumi or izanami or frog song you lost . simple as that (unless you can flip the genjutsu to your control )

strong genjutsu= what the toads used against pain
mangekyo sharingan genjutsu= what sasuke used on shee
tsukiyomi= itachi
kotoamatsukami= shisui uchiha
infinite tsukiyomi= madara

my point is that maybe the byakugan can break through genjutsu but this is the top level of genjutsu
