He is a hero but he ****ing killed his clan. Like come on, even little kids and old people which had nothing to do with the coup d'etat.

Lel he's the hero konoha needs but doesn't deserve.

I see why he did what he did but it's hard to overlook the fact that he turned his back on family

I know. Personally, though, I think it was harder for him than his family. He had to live his whole entire life with that regret. I would rather die imo...

little kids would grow up and become "sasukes"(or simply follow their parents path)....there would have been 100s of "sasukes" then. and old people sure had their roles too(as if old people in konoha are all inocent(danzo/hiruzen/the elders etc...)
it was either fight with them, or wipe them out completely. he did what was best. kill a few to save more.

Hero? obviously not

He chose to side with Danzo and his method rather than Hiruzen's, he could have helped hiruzen in his peace talks if he wanted by trying to talk with his father who was leading the coup but he didnt

at best he is another danzo

Itachi is a flawed hero. He's a good person at heart, it's just that he had to make a tough decision at such a young age even with Kage level intellect it's still tough. Danzo also kind of manipulated Itachi into destroying his clan. Itachi had to carry all those bodies that he killed on his conscious that's why he made Sasuke's life miserable and pushing him to give in to his hatred. Good intentions. Bad strategy.

What did he do after all? Itachi failed in everything, killed his clan and wasted so many chances during his Akatsuki time to destroy their plans that it's not even funny.

He is a traitor and will be because of his actions. He tried to predict future 10+ years ahead but is that really what heroes do? They let time and others decide? Nope, he should've taken actions to their fullest during his life.

Also, he wasn't even emotionally strong enough to let go off Sasuke and devoted all his life to him. If he had guts, he would have not cared the shit about him but done his best to stop Tsuki No Me.

I know I'm going to get assaulted by Itachi fapboys, but sadly it's all true. Itachi is very strong, but Kishi failed miserably developing his character. He tried to make him a villain just to get us a plot twist later on, but it sucked.

I love how people lap up the ethos of Nationalism, given that it's the root cause of world evils. War, mass slaughter, pillaging - all done in the name of National love, or patriotism. The Transcendent Evil in humans is truly brought out in magnificent colours with Jingoism. There is little reality to the word Hero, given its other, darker and much uglier other half.

So given the context I created, Itachi is no hero. He betrayed his kith and kin and slaughtered them in cold blood. There is no heroism in betraying your own kind, especially if they revere and look up to you to drag them out of decades long wrongful segregation. It's pitiful and supporting such dogmatic views woefully horrid. I have no idea, who in his right might channels their personal views on this indoctrinated garbage into this manga, and even consider it elevating morally or ethically.

I forever, remain surprised.

Itachi can't just admit he screwed up.

Normally hurting your family is looked down upon but not in Naruto!

I'm ambivalent towards his character.

For all we know, he did what he truly believed as the best thing to do. He was sincere in wanting to protect the peace of Konoha, for the greater good.

But he did everything on his own. He thought that his method was the only right way, he was kinda the same as Danzo. Maybe he should had consulted with Hiruzen first before making such a rush decision, especially knowing what Danzo did to Shisui. Danzo the piece of shit who didn't trust anything accept his own ****in filthy method.

It was obvious that Danzo was an @$s**le. Yet he accepted Danzo's order. It's kinda like he was a little bit manipulated by Danzo.

He's no hero to me. Genocide can never be justified imo. People say he had no choice but I don't agree with that. Uchihas wanted to revolt fine, however they were being wrongly treated by the village higher ups. itachi could have at least tried to see things from their side rather than just go with what danzo proposed. There's always two sides to every story, not to mention danzo is not one to trust esp considering that he popped out the eye of your best pal. For this I don't consider him a hero but its jus my opinion.

Its all about perspective of view on Itachi's character.

For me personally, he is a close to traitor and failure than actual hero. While Itachi's true goals were to protect and prevent world war, he did it in a wrong way. He killed his clan, never helped gather Akatsuki Intel to Konoha, helped Danzo (the dark side ninja), and turned Sasuke into a villain. His actions are not tolerant at all. He doesn't show any remorse for torturing Sasuke for years. Its true he helped win a war for Konoha, but Itachi was ignorant of Konoha's past actions. So, his point of ''Konoha Shinobi'' is moot.

I see him as a traitor and shame of the Uchiha.
