It's actually a valid debate.
Transporting large objects doesn't take any more time it just takes more chakra, which Edo Minato has unlimited reserves of. The scans suggest that in the time it took Hiruzen to jump away, Minato only had time to react and activate FTG which is literally instantaneous.
